Boston.com is reporting that the Red Sox are sneaking in on Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop (and much sought after I might add) Rafael Furcal? after all, the Red Sox have struggled at the SS position over the last several years (hello Edgar Renteria. Hello Julio Lugo.). Rafael Furcal sure would look good in Fenway Park - but I really do not see this happening and expect that he signs with one of the Bay Area teams: the San Francisco Giants or the Oakland Athletics. Giants Sign Renteria

Giants sign Edgar Renteria for two years, $18.5MM.Analysis: Law, Szymborski, Watson.San Francisco's shortstops hit .228/.295/.281 last year, so there's certainly a lot of room for improvement here.Renteria has been absurdly inconsistent over the last five years, and has famously fared much better in the NL. It'd be silly to expect the 33-year old Renteria to return to his 2007 form...

Edgar Renteria Signs With The San Francisco Giants

Whether or not you think he's being overpaid, it seems the San Francisco Giants are going to sign free-agent shortstop Edgar Renteria to a 2-year deal in the $18 million range.Fantasy baseball owners had high expectations for Renteria when he signed with the Tigers last season. Actually, most ...

Giants Closing In On Renteria?

According to Jon Heyman, the Giants and Edgar Renteria are closing in on a two year deal. This was reported last week but immediately shot down by both parties. However, I just spoke with the agent of Edgar Renteria and he told me that "they are closing in on an agreement" with an unknown club. Multiple sources are reporting that the Giants are that team, so we can probably expect...

Furcal rumors could start again.....

About two weeks ago it was reported by a foreign newspaper that Rafael Furcal, himself said the Mets had made him a tempting offer. The Mets would have required Furcal to move to 2B as part of the deal. The rumor was quickly dismissed/denied and subsided as Furcal competed with Edgar Renteria ...

Giants Never Fail to Amaze Me, Sign Renteria to $18.5 Million Deal

Instead of getting younger (which would have been prudent for the post-Bonds era), the Giants continue to throw millions at over-priced veterans. First, it was signing a 38-year old Omar Vizquel (though, to the Giants credit, $5 million for a gold glove isn't too much to spend). Then it was the Barry Zito abortion of a signing that paid him $14.5 million in 2008 - nearly $1 million...

Pair of Shortstops find new homes: Renteria, Greene

According to the SF Chronicle, the Giants have filled their desperate needs for a stronger bullpen, and they believe they have filled it with left-hander Jeremy Affeldt and their latest acquisition, right-hander Bobby Howry. The Giants have been the most aggressive team in a slow free-agent market and should make more news as soon as today by announcing a two-year contract with...

Greene Traded To Cardinals

According to the New York Post, the Cardinals are set to acquire SS Khalil Greene from the Padres in exchange for two relief prospects. The Padres have been frustrated with Greene's performance for the past several seasons and trading him will not only clear up cash, but give them two solid prospects in return. The Cardinals, who miss out on Edgar Renteria, now have a shortstop...

Furcal Rejects Athletics Offer

According to MLB.com, the Athletics four year, thirty-five million dollar deal to Rafael Furcal was rejected late last night. I have a feeling that that is the best offer he is going to get. Furcal hit .357 in 36 games for the Dodgers last season, and is a career .286 hitter. Considering he had a poor 2007 and has back problems in 2008 that kept him out, and four year deal with a...

Giants to Make Offer for CC

Yesterday it was reported that CC Sabathia's wife Amber wants here husband to play in San Francisco. Sabathia also obviously would also love to play near his home town -he is from Vallejo, California, around 30 miles outside of San Francisco. The Giants are interested and have some money to ...

San Francisco Giants Keep Rolling; Sign Howry and Renteria

Things are really starting to heat up as the Winter Meetings get closer and closer. One of the most active teams so far this off season, has been the San Francisco Giants. Just two weeks after signing left handed relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt, the Giants jumped at the opportunity to grab right handed reliever Bobby Howry who became very desirable after not being offered arbitration...
