Will the Red Sox sign Barry Bonds?

There have been a lot of rumors floating around since David Ortiz got hurt that the Red Sox might be interested in Barry Bonds. The rumors have been proven false by the front office and despite leading the entire NL in OPS and OBP last year, that doesn't shock me one bit. Here's why..

Do you think he would be welcomed to Bean-town?

If he performed, sure. Otherwise, not a chance.

He blasted Boston as being a racist horrible town before he had EVER taken a trip here. After he came here he was like "oh yeah, its a real nice polite town."

I don't think fans would let him forget that.

There's no doubt he would produce. It's just whether or not his antics are worth it.
Although, I think being out of a job for so long might have humbled him a bit.

I took a poll on my page a while back to see what people thought would happen 1st - Zito getting a win or Bonds getting a job.
Looks like Zito won by a long shot! lol!

Well part of me wonders if his "production" (which lets face it, was mostly walks) is part of a product of the NL. If they walk Bonds, then that essentially boils a lineup down to 7 hitters, 1 pitcher, and a free pass. I'm not so sure AL pitchers would be willing to give up the walk quite as easily.

And after being out of a job for so long like you mentioned, for him to immediately pick it back up and put up numbers like he did last year, would be a pretty big stretch. Even if he has stayed in shape, that's different than facing a grouping of 90+ mph fastballs every day.

Thats pretty funny about Zito. He got rode pretty hard but it seemed to stop once he got the first win, which I think is complete crap because wins are largely due to your teams performance. He should have either not gotten as much criticism as he did, or the criticism should still be coming. I'm gonna go with the former rather than the latter because if you ignore how much he's paid (it's hard to ignore a number that big, I know) then his performance wasn't as gut wrenching as it was made out to be.

Oh no - they're still riding him out here.
there is a growing movement to get him to donate a big chunk of money to charity or to subsidise a dollar beer day at the game.
I doubt he's going to be doing anything like he did last year but I also think he would be willing to go for a pretty good bargain.
Time will tell cause I think SOMEONE will pick him up.

It would have to come down to value, do the red sox really need a very expensive awesome hitter who really cant play the field?

Well the 'can't play the field' part is kind of moot because they're trying to find someone to take David Ortiz's place at DH.

only if there is a roid factrory nearby

Someone may pick him up just to fill seats in the stadium. I used to really admire Bonds for his playing ability, but I am now one of those that thinks there needs to be a big * by his homerun record. If Hank Aaron would have used steroids, I'd feel the say way about him. I don't blame him for not wanting to be in the stadium when Bonds broke the record. That spoke mountains enough for everyone.

I'm with you FIVERINGS. I would not be at all surprised if Bonds gets brought on to fill seats. Love him or hate him, people would show. That said, I agree. Asterisk all the way.

It's kind of ironic that the Rays were going to get him to help the ballclub and fill seats but now they're tearing it up, mostly.
