Found February 24, 2009 on Cub Reporter: Yardbarker Blogger Network
Hat tip to Bleacher Nation for the find, but it appears that Carlos Zambrano has duped us all. Official rosters are set to be announced tomorrow but SI.com has the scoop on Team Venezuela. Carlos Zambrano of the Chicago Cubs will stand in for Santana on the mound while sluggers Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers will lead Venezuela's offense, according to the line-up released on Monday by Edwin Zerpa, president of the Venezuelan Baseball Federation. In addition to Santana, Anibal Sanchez, Angel Guzman, Maicer Izturis and Renyel Pinto will not be participating, mostly because their respective Major League teams would not clear them. Others did not want to risk injuries. Zambrano was not originally expected to join the line-up, but the Cubs decided to clear him. No good will come of this.

Cubs Season Preview: Starting another Century of Losing

Every site I have seen projecting Major League Baseball standings for 2009 has the Cubbies winning 93-95 games. The Cubs certainly have the chips to win, but have many of question marks heading into Spring Training.

Baseball America’s Top 30 Cubs Prospects, Part 1:  Tools and Draft Analysis

Baseball America’s annual prospect book is a must have in my opinion.  The 2009 edition came out a week or two ago and I’ve been meaning to start a series on the Cubs prospects since I got it, but I’m lazy.  I think Ryno and Sam will eventually complete their prospects series, but this one is solely based on BA’s 2009 Handbook.  I’m going to break this down into 4 parts...

Lionel tests typing fingers, shows off his testy side

Posted by Lionel on February 24, 2009.A few days ago, the Tribune's Paul Sullivan wrote an article questioning Z's shoulder and his head. When I initially read the article, it got under my skin. But, I decided it wasn't worthy of being commented on and so I let it pass. But, the more I've let it sink in, the more it has bothered me. This isn't news. This is someone trying to create...

Borowski “Will Pitch No More, Forever,” Cleveland Area Donut Shops Disappointed

Former Cubs closer Joe Borowski is no more. Bereft of life, he now rests in….what’s that you say? Oh, he’s just retiring. Well, that’s not so bad then. I always liked Joe Borowski as a Cub, even if he really only had a couple good seasons here. I sat down near the bullpen a couple of times, and Borowski was always a good sort, tossing foul balls back, and chatting up...

Tigers' Future Star: Cale Iorg

About a year ago I checked in on the Baby Jays and mentioned Cale Iorg, the son of Garth Iorg. The youngest of Iorg's three sons, Cale didn't play an official baseball game from when he left for Portugal on a Mormon mission in July of 2005 until August of 2007. Garth said Cale had stayed in shape over those two years and had thrown a baseball, but hadn't swung a bat...

TD in Focus: Spotlight on Aaron Heilman

Posted by Mav on February 22, 2009.The Towel Drills staff welcomes long-time Cub fan and former college pitcher "Mav" to the TD Bullpen. Mav will be bringing us some great in-depth stuff throughout the season with the added perspective of actually having competed at a level higher than tee ball or beer league softball (though I can vouch for Mav's credentials in the...

US Senator, HoF Pitcher, Soothsayer
