The Outside Corner:
The Homerun Derby contest has gone much the way of the NBA Slam Dunk contest or the NFL Pro Bowl. It's losing its popularity that it once so gloriously carried in the 1990's. Thankfully for Major League Baseball, once every few years, they get an unforgettable performance from someone like Josh Hamilton that revives the luster of this once great exhibition of herculean power. I mean no offense when I say that a homerun contest between Matt Holliday and Rickie Weeks would hardly bring out the best in media ratings, attendance or entertainment in general. It's about time Major League Baseball gave its fans yet another night to remember in the 24 hours leading up to the midsummer classic. There are two players that can do such a thing and even elevate this event to a place it has scarcely been before. Giancarlo Stanton and Mark Trumbo.
These two players can hit a baseball further than anyone in the game. In the post steroid era, they are the marquee power hitters of...
BEST OF MAXIM
Josh Hamilton left his ever lasting impression on Safeco Field's center field wall last night. Alex Liddi hit a bomb to center field and Hamilton a terrific defender, who has robbed many people of extra-base hits in the past, did the same to Liddi. Hamilton ran straight into a padded center field wall, but clearly not padded enough to save Hamilton from being a little banged...
Even under the weather, Josh Hamilton is tough to stop.
Hamilton hit a two-run homer in the 13th inning as the Texas Rangers rallied to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-7 Saturday.
Nelson Cruz, Yorvit Torrealba and Mitch Moreland hit consecutive homers for Texas in the sixth inning.
Hamilton's game-ending homer, the third of his career, came while he was fighting an upper respiratory...
Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning, lifting the Texas Rangers to an 8-7 victory over the Toronto Blue jays.
Toronto had taken a 7-5 lead in the top half, but Elvis Andrus doubled in a run off Ryota Igarashi to start the comeback. Hamilton's third game-ending homer came off Jason Frasor (0-1) and was his 20th home run of the year.
CINCINNATI For his short stay as General Manager of the Cincinnati Reds, Wayne Krivsky's legacy might not be glossy on the surface: The man who traded Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers for Edinson Volquez and Daniel Ray Herrera.
That's an easy criticism, shooting apples in an orchard.
What Reds fans should remember is that within a span of two weeks six years ago Krivsky...
The Texas Rangers have been unusually quiet at the plate lately and might have trouble ending that trend against Toronto's Brandon Morrow, who is coming off his second shutout in four starts.
Josh Hamilton and the Rangers will try to begin breaking out of their offensive slump Friday night when they open a three-game home series against Morrow and the Blue Jays.
Tonight will kick off (or be the first pitch) for the WFNY/FanDuel Fantasy Baseball tournament which could send one of you to Las Vegas for the chance to win $100,000.
We laid out the details here, but in case you’re not from around these parts…
FanDuel Fantasy Challenges are fantasy baseball, salary cap style, for one night. You want Josh Hamilton? He’s yours. Josh Johnson...
If you're looking for details on Saturday's biggest news -- Josh Hamilton's 20th homer, Jarrod Saltalamacchia's dramatic walk-off blast, the Adam Jones and Miguel Montero contract extensions -- well, for once, you've come to the wrong place.
This edition of Extra Innings is dedicated to four largely anonymous players, four guys who weren't supposed to make...

Seattle gains ground
May has not been kind to the AL West. The division has a 43-44 record in May, with just Oakland and Los Angeles enjoying winning records. With such a lackluster month, division records remain relatively unchanged.
Texas Rangers: 27-18
Oakland Athletics: 22-23 (5 GB)
Seattle Mariners: 21-25 (6.5 GB)
Los Angeles Angels: 20-25 (7 GB)
Nelson Cruz hit a grand slam and tied his career high with eight
RBIs, Josh Hamilton hit his 19th home run of the season and the
Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 14-3 Friday night.
