A “New York minute” is a phrase to describe an increibly brief moment of time. Or as Johnny Carson once explained, it’s the interval between a Manhattan traffic light turning green and the guy behind you honking his horn. Right now, Mets fans are wondering why Sandy Alderson doesn’t fix all of the team’s problems in a New York minute.
Of course, Alderson brought some of this on himself, speculating that he could get contract extensions done for R.A. Dickey and David Wright by the end of the World Series. If he had kept to that timetable, the logic goes, he could have addressed the outfield at the Winter Meetings and the 2013 team would be in place by now.
But it’s way past time for the Mets to be less concerned with winning in early December than winning in August. The last four years the Mets are 44-67 in the eighth month of the year. I don’t think you can point to just one thing and make that the culprit for the team’s lousy record in August. But it does seem like the Mets...

Reviewing Mets trade targets: Mike Olt, Travis D’Arnaud and Xander Bogaerts
I think most Met fans are tired of the saga of R.A. Dickey. I know that I am. I fully agree with the reports that once Hamilton signs (hopefully with Texas) the Mets and their potential dance partners will have a better idea of the scope of the dance floor. (Trade Floor) The most likely suitors appear to be the Rangers and Dickey would be in some ways coming home to the team...

Mets 'not happy' with R.A. Dickey
The Mets are trying to figure out how the reigning NL Cy Young winner fits into their future plans, but the team is reportedly a little miffed with the knuckleballer's actions of late.
R.A. Dickey is upset with the slow pace of contract negotiations
This afternoon at the New York Mets holiday party in Citi Field, R.A. Dickey told reporters he would test free agency after the 2013 season, if he does not sign a contract extension with the club this off-season. Which R.A. said would most likely mean he will not be back in 2014.
“If that’s the decision they feel like is best for the club, and that’s the decision that they...
Sources: Jays, Mets discussing Dickey
The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets are close to agreeing on a trade that would send Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey to Toronto, according to major league sources.
The Mets have been working on parallel tracks with Dickey for weeks, negotiating a contract extension with him while also holding trade discussions. In recent days it became apparent that the Mets had received at...
Can the Mets cash in on Dickey’s Cy Young season?
The drama has been played out in the public, it’s been the talk of sports radio,ESPN and print media and it is reaching the point of where do both parties go from here? The Mets are happy for everything that R.A. Dickey has done for them for the past 3 seasons. R.A. Dickey is happy that the Mets took a chance on him when no one else would.
Knuckleballers aren’t as sexy an attraction...
Infuriating Alderson Dumps On Mets Fans
The words seared into my consciousness.
I previously defended Sandy Alderson, thinking as a hired gun his job was to pare payroll and ease the Mets’ financial strain, which he did.
However, there is no defending what he said yesterday at the Mets’ Annual Christmas party, one where they asked R.A. Dickey to dress as an elf.
I usually applaud honesty, but this time it would have...

The Toronto Blue Jays Have pulled into the lead to land Mets starter R.A. Dickey. R.A. Dickey Likely Headed to Toronto
The Mets and Blue Jays quickly moved toward a trade yesterday. A trade isn’t official yet, however news from Jon Heyman is that players in the deal have been agreed on, just no news yet of who is involved. At this point it looks like it is medical reviews that are left, possibly extension talks with Dickey. The Other surprising news from last night is the move might require multiple...
Mets On Verge Of Trading Dickey, Blue Jays Travis D’Arnaud A “Must Have”
Update 7:15pm:

R.A. Dickey Trade Rumors: Where Pitcher’s numbers would be be best

Before going on, I certainly need to extend my heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted by what happened in Connecticut on Friday. Obviously, when things like that happen, they put sports, fantasy sports, and pretty much everything else into perspective. On that note, we all certainly understand anyone who may not be in the mindset to read...

The 2012 Season In Slow Home Runs
A little over two weeks ago, I wrote up The 2012 Season In High Home Runs. That concluded a four-part home-runs-by-pitch-location series, but of course, pitch-location data isn’t the only data that we have, and there are other extremes to explore. Given that it’s late on Friday and R.A. Dickey hasn’t been traded yet, I think, I figured now would be a good time to mess around...
