One loss to the Astros doesn't bother me. As I said yesterday, they're seemingly not as putrid as they were last season. But two? Well then it's time to remind the Mets of one very important fact:They're the Astros!!! Then again, the Astros are probably saying "They're the Mets. We should be beating them to a pulp." And that they did, for the second straight night. Jon Niese got clobbered in four innings of work, giving up dingers to Jed Lowrie and Chris Snyder ... the latter of which landed somewhere on f*cking Mars. (Snyder's shot was hit harder than the fire extinguisher in Miami.) Niese was pulled after four innings as Terry Collins rolled the dice and sent Lucas Duda to pinch hit as the tying run in the fifth, knowing full well that Niese didn't have his best stuff against the Houston Astros (probably didn't think he'd need it). It would have worked except for the fact that he can't hit lefties, and he's sick as a dog. To m...

Astros proving doubters wrong with sweep

HOUSTON -- It was one three-game series bridging the close of April and the opening of May, so in a sense it's too early for unbridled enthusiasm. But victories are validating. For franchises with rosters teeming with youngsters seeking to find their place in the majors, sweeps aren't casually disregarded. No one expects the Astros to harp on their whitewashing of the Mets...

Astros' numbers not indicative of losing record

HOUSTON It was a split-second decision that paid immediate dividends, the type of instant reward for playing the game the right way that had frequently eluded the Astros over the first month of the season. Astros center fielder Jordan Schafer didn't have much time to belabor his thought process, not with the Astros locked in a sixth-inning scoreless tie with the Mets, and not...

Astros' Weiland undergoes surgery for infection in shoulder

Houston Astros starting pitcher Kyle Weiland's shoulder condition worsened considerably since initial diagnosis of bursitis, sending him in for surgery on what the team believes to be an infection. It also throws into question what was supposed to be a short disabled-list stint and leaves open-ended just how long the Astros will need to find a new fifth starter. While...

HOUSTON (AP) -- Chris Snyder hit a three-run home run and Jed Lowrie had a two-run shot to give the Houston Astros a 6-3 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The Mets Say Goodbye to Houston

The Astros are moving to the American League at the end of the year so this afternoon is the last time the Mets play in Houston, unless they have a rare interleague series. Houston has never been kind to them throughout their history. As Gary Cohen mentioned during last night’s game, the Mets have a losing record all-time in the three parks the Astros/Colt 45′s have called home...

Struggling Astros take first two from Mets

Pre-Game: Game 23 - New York Mets @ Houston Astros

After a series win against the Rockies in Colorado, the Mets will travel to Houston to open a 3 game series with the Astros at Minute Maid Park.  The Mets are a surprising 13-9 on the young season and will look to improve that record against an Astros team that has struggled thus far in 2012.  The Astros come into the series at  8-14 on the year.  They have not had many problems...

Mets Walk 8 In 8, Early Niese Exit And Mets Fall To Astros 6-3

You are going to see me complain about walks, but it was a rough start for Jon Niese that put us on the path to a 6-3 defeat to the Astros. Summary You all know I like pitching, right? Right. You all know I hate walks, right? Right. So you can imagine how much I screamed at my television when I saw the Mets walk a ridiculous eight players in the eight innings pitched Tuesday evening...

Post Game: Houston's A Problem- Mets Drop 2nd Consecutive

Is Free Agency Dying?

In the last two months, the Mets, Rangers, Indians, Reds, Giants and Nationals locked up Jon Niese, Ian Kinsler, Carlos Santana, Brandon Phillips, Madison Bumgarner and Ryan Zimmerman, respectively.
