Found September 24, 2013 on The Outside Corner:
This story is one of the most egregious examples of misplaced attention I've seen in awhile. A Yankees fan named Joseph Neubauer was fired from his job at the Taxi and Limousine Commission because he skipped a day of work last September to attend a Yankees game that was rained out. Neubauer hadn't missed a Yankees home game since the 1970s, and was just trying to keep his streak alive. No big deal, right? Well, as there always is with stories like this, there's more to the story than meets the eye, via CBS New York. The trouble stemmed from a game on September 19, 2012. The Yankees were rained out the night before and rescheduled for the next day. Neubauer refused to break his 38-year tradition and took a day off from work without permission. “I feel like I regretted it in a way. I just want to try to come back,” he said. Officials at the Taxi and Limousine Commission say it wasn’t the first time Neubauer had gone AWOL. A Judge suspended him for 60-days wit...

Hamstring woes end Sabathia's season

New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain and will not pitch again this season. Sabathia, who was injured Friday night against the San Francisco Giants, will need approximately eight weeks to recover. In 32 starts this season, Sabathia is 14-13 with a 4.78 ERA and 175 strikeouts (in 211 innings). It is the worst ERA of his...

Fan Proposes Ultimate Mariano Rivera Tribute

On Sunday afternoon, the New York Yankees honored Mariano Rivera Sunday with a ceremony befitting a king. The Yankees presented their legendary closer with some top shelf parting gifts...everyone in uniform wore a special patch, the team retired Rivera's number 42, displayed that same 42 on both the field and in Monument Park, donated $100,000 to the all-time saves leader...

The Hall of Fame case of Andy Pettitte

This week, TOC will be looking at five players who recently announced their retirements from the game and their potential Hall of Fame cases. Today, things get a lot more interesting, as we look at Andy Pettitte. Andy Pettitte's reputation might actually be stronger than his actual resume. The guy has a lot of wins and a lot of Postseason heroics, but is there really anything...

Diehard Yankees Fan Fired from Job After Missing Too Many Works Days Trying to Keep Up Stadium Attendance Streak

This is one dedicated fan. Joseph Neubauer, a New York City resident and diehard Yankees fan, was recently fired from his job because he didn’t want to be responsible for messing up the attendance streak at Yankee Stadium, CBS New York reports. Neubauer has been a Yankee fan since he was 10, and says he hasn’t missed a home game since the 1970s. Neubauer worked for the Taxi and Limousine Com...

Here's our rotation for 2014: CC, Nova, Pineda, Phelps and Adam Warren. And the bullpen will be whatever old tires Cashman can find on trips to the scrap yard

But we'll still be chasing that final wild card spot into early September, so who cares?

Mariano Rivera Bobblehead Night At Yankee Stadium Was A Sh*tstorm

In a nightmare season that has seen everything has gone wrong for the New York Yankees it continued to go wrong on a special night for the team’s star. Tuesday was Mariano Rivera Bobblehead Night at Yankee Stadium and fans showed up in droves to acquire this tribute to the certain Hall of Famer. Only problem is that the bobleheads didn’t show up. The bobbleheads were coming from...

Rivera's bobblehead arrives late

Mariano Rivera always enters late in the game. His bobblehead doll did the same thing. The New York Yankees were forced to hand out vouchers for the giveaway honoring the career saves leader to the first 18,000 fans who arrived for Tuesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays because of a transportation issue. A public address announcement in the bottom of the third inning...

Yankees Game 157: Absent offense in critical game

(Elsa/Getty Images) Tampa Bay Rays 7 — New York Yankees 0   The Yankees couldn’t get the offense going in tonight’s 7-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees turned to Hiroki Kuroda with each of these remaining six games being tremendous if the Yankees have any postseason hopes. The first batter, Matt Joyce, didn’t let the Yankees get things started right. The Rays’...

Playoff Push: Yankees remain 4 games back

(Courtesy of Maddie Meyer/Getty Images) Both the Yankees and Indians were off yesterday, so the ground to make up is still 4 games. Things are looking bleak. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday: Rays: 5-4 win vs Orioles. James Loney belts walk-off home run in the 9th. Indians: OFF Rangers: 12-0 win vs Astros. Derek Holland throws complete-game shutout. Of course...

Yankees Fans Stand In Line For Mariano Bobblehead, Get Vouchers Instead

I thought Yankees fans were supposed to be ‘too cool’ to do something this dorky. Apparently that’s anything but the case, as large crowds of fans came to the stadium well in advance all to be part of the first 18,000 in attendance to get a free Mariano Rivera bobblehead. Understandably, people go crazy for all things Mo related, especially with his retirement (standing...

CC Sabathia out for season

Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia has thrown his last pitch in 2013. The Yankees announced as much in the following press release Monday morning: In his last start on Friday vs. San Francisco LHP CC Sabathia suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain which requires a recovery time of approximately eight weeks. As a result Sabathia will not be able to pitch during the rest of the...

Playoff Push: Yankees 5 games back with 5 to go

(Courtesy of Kathy Willens/AP Photo) Last night, the Yankees were flat and lost to the Rays, falling 5 games back of the final Wild Card spot. With 5 games left, the Yankees playoff hopes are all but over. The same can’t be said about the Orioles, who were eliminated from the playoffs with their loss last night. Here are how the other teams in contention fared yesterday: Rays:...

Mankind Gets Small Taste of Dystopian Future On Mariano Rivera Bobblehead Night

(Photo by@IamMapes) It's not a matter of if, but when. There will come a day, a day like any other, when the society you know, the civilization that has been going strong for thousands of years, grinds to a halt. It could be peak oil, it could be food shortages, or, as the Yankees showed us last night, it could be a lack of promotional bobbleheads.  And on that day,...

A Picture Of A Thousand Words.....

This is a photographic summary of the talent Brian Cashman has assembled in the most extensive farm system in baseball ( we have 2 "A" ball teams in florida ):Cashman must be dumped. He has to be a Republican because he is constantly rewarded for failure. There is no accountability in his work or his life.

Joe Maddon seeks inspiration before facing Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) -- Joe Maddon sought some assistance in devising his lineup for Wednesday night's game against the New York Yankees, so the Tampa Bay Rays manager walked from his team's hotel in Times Square to St. Patrick's Cathedral. Maddon said he sat in the back for his late-morning visit. "I was looking for inspiration," he said. "I saw St. Jude -...
