Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu both figured they would be signed, sealed and delivered by now, and getting ready to play with their new teams.
However, they continue to wait for an offer and anxiously stand by waiting for their phones to ring.
The problem is that nobody seems willing to succumb to their lofty demands, and now with less than a month before the start of Spring Training, everything is starting to change.
They have both now faced the reality of the economic climate and are now both willing to sign considerably less. Each of them stood by and watched as Pat Burrell sign with the Tampa Bay Rays for much less than anyone expected.
One prominent player agent even said this last Friday regarding Adam Dunn.
"I think Dunn will get a max of $5 million per year. Anything more than that and I'd be surprised."
Shocking to say the least, and maybe a little bit of an exaggeration as well, but the message was loud and clear.
