Found April 11, 2009 on Another Cubs Blog:
It is the stance of the writer and of ACB that Ryan Theriot was not to blame for the loss yesterday. Apparently, our prose has become so heady that others are lead astray in reading, which causes them to draw flawed inferences and pretend as if we have said things that we did not. We at ACB apologize for our forays into the Thackery-esque and promise to be more clear in future. Once again, we at ACB consider baseball to be a team sport, and consider yesterday’s lose a team loss. No one player, no one facet, no one unit can be blamed. The Cubs lost. Period. In case that was unclear, let me be frank: no one player or set of players should be blamed for the Cubs loss of yesterday. I’m not sure that was clear. Let me try again: I don not wish to place the blame for yesterday’s loss on the shoulders of Ryan Theriot, nor on Kevin Gregg or any other single player. Wait, I think I was unclear again. How about this: it’s not Theriot’s fault the Cubs lost. No, that was too passive. Try again. Ryan Theriot is in no way, shape or form solely blameworthy in yesterday’s loss. Naw. Too oblique and overqualified. Baseball is a team sport: you win as a team and lose as a team. Yesterday the Cubs lost as a team. Not exactly clear, and a bit folksy. Ah, I’ve got it! Bottom line: the Cubs offense failed to execute timely hitting, the Cubs defense failed to show up, and the Cubs closer fell on his face after a bad call. Perfect. Oh, wait..that’s exactly what I wrote yesterday.
