In my list of outfielders I have no problem starting any of my top 36 guys. That's not to say that I wouldn't start outfielders 37 through 60, but I don't want to build my lineup around those guys. How many outfielders your league starts will determine the approach you should take in your draft. If your league starts five outfielders you should take them early and often, trying to get as many of the top 36 guys as possible in your starting lineup. If your league only starts three outfielders, then you won't have as much urgency to draft an outfielder, and you can pass on a guy like Matt Holliday in the first, or Carlos Beltran in the second, in order to focus on stars at other positions. Top of the Pack Nothing is really guaranteed, but if you could guarantee that a group of outfielders would finish with 30 or more homers, my top tier is the group. In this group I either have guys like Carlos Lee, who will bat over .300 and steal at least 10 bases, or guys like Grady Sizemore, who will add 30 steals to the homers. Carlos Lee is the guy I put the most value on. Lee is being taken towards the end of the second round in most drafts, and plays in a great park for home runs. If you grabbed A-Rod or Hanley in the first round, you can get Lee at the end of the second round and build your team around two great hitters. Fantasy STARters There's nothing wrong with the second tier, you can just get them cheaper than the guys up top. The one exception is Vladimir Guerrero. Guerrero is still going high, but he is a little over valued this season. Over the past four years Guerrero has seen a constant decline in slugging percentage numbers, and has seen his at bats per home run ratio...
