Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggests that Washington Nationals first baseman Adam Dunn would be best suited as a DH. With the Red Sox probably parting ways with incumbent DH David Ortiz after this season, it could be a perfect fit for the Sox.
Dunn, a free agent after this season, would like to stay in Washington. He is wrapping up a two-year, $20 million contract, and has been optimistic that an extension will occur. Both parties have discussed a contract extension, but nothing formal has been submitted.
“The Nationals know how I feel about this place. I hope that something can be worked out,” Dunn said earlier this week. “Again, I’m not in any hurry. It’s probably No. 10 on my list of things to worry about.”
Cafardo adds that Dunn’s defensive problems aren’t a good fit for a team that is emphasizing run prevention especially with phenom Stephen Strasburg in the picture.
