Gonzo go

In a night that had Kevin Youkilis' return to Boston & the season debut of Carl Crawford, the biggest return was Adrian Gonzalez's power.

Gonzo took a high fastball from Leyson Septimo into the monster seats for a three run home run that helped give the Red Sox a 5-1 victory.

It did "spoil" Youkilis' return as he recieved a standing ovation in the first and he had himself another three hit night. It was only Youk & AJ Pierzynski who were even able to get a hit off of the Sox pitching. Aaron Cook had his sinker going, getting fifteen groundball outs. He allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings. Vicente Padilla got the win after a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth and Alfedo Aceves finished it off in the ninth.

Now I wanted to get in all the good news before some bad: David Ortiz hurt himself rounding the bases during A-Gon's home run. Bobby Valentine said postgame that he tweaked his Achilles but he did NOT tear it. So he'll be out for a couple of days, maybe not long enough for a trip to the DL. The Sox just can't have something good happen without something bad happening. Ortiz said it best: "This ******* team is cursed!"

Crawford felt pressure from Francona

Carl Crawford got off to a terrible start last season, and now he says he felt pressure from former Red Sox manager Terry Francona.

How should you feel about Carl Crawford's return?

I was at a Dick's Sporting Goods this weekend, killing time and enjoying air conditioning. In doing so, I was looking through the 50%-off-the-lowest-price clearance rack in the Boston sports section, where they generally keep leftover Papelbon jerseys, or Shaq Celtics t-shirts. As I was thumbing through the options, I came across two dozen Carl Crawford jerseys, both home...

Kevin Youkilis' Return to Fenway Park Should Bring Cheers, Unlike Visits From Other Former Players (Photos)

Kevin Youkilis returns to Fenway Park on Monday night and there's little doubt that Red Sox fans will be giving the former corner infielder the "Friendly Fenway" treatment. Youkilis was a fan favorite and popular among his teammates and the city of Boston. After all, he climbed through the Red Sox minor league system to become the player he is today. He walked off the...

Kevin Youkilis Returns to Boston on Fire at the Plate (Video)

Kevin Youkilis makes his return to Boston on Monday, just a few weeks after the Red Sox traded the infielder to the Chicago White Sox. While rumors of friction in the clubhouse ran rampant early in the year, Tim Wakefield insists that Youkilis took a professional approach to the game during the time the two played together. Wakefield praised Youkilis' work ethic and dedication...

Mayor fires cop who slurred Crawford

A Massachusetts mayor has fired a police officer accused of directing a racial slur at Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford during a baseball game. Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella says Officer John Perrault's comments and actions show he's unfit to serve on the police force. Mazzarella's decision Thursday comes a day after Police Chief Robert Healey recommended...

Bobby Valentine's Continued Comments on Kevin Youkilis Set Stage for White Sox' Visit to Fenway Park (Video)

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine already got in trouble once for comments he made about former Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis. Back on April 15, he told WHDH's Joe Amorosino that he didn't think that Youkilis was "as physically or emotionally into the game as he has been in the past for some reason." The two have had a testy relationship ever since, and that may...

The Bakke Report – Welcome Back Carl Crawford

As I write this, Boston Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford is on the field at Fenway Park for his first game of the year. Coincidentally, this return happens to be occurring on the same evening that fan favorite and recently traded third baseman Kevin Youkilis also returns for his first game back since a [...]

Will Carl Crawford or Jacoby Ellsbury Finish the Season With More Steals?

With Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford returning to the Red Sox lineup recently, there will certainly be more speed. Both of them make a living stealing bases and causing havoc on the basepaths. The dynamic duo has been tearing it up at the top of the order with Dustin Pedrioa out of the lineup, but with Pedroia set to return soon, they could shake things up. As long as he stays...

Youkilis avoids new Valentine barb

Chicago White Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis refused to comment Sunday on the latest criticism from Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

White Sox-Red Sox Preview

While Kevin Youkilis became expendable with the Boston Red Sox, he's been plenty productive on the South Side. Youkilis returns to Boston for the first time since getting traded as the Chicago White Sox - winners of seven straight at Fenway Park - open a four-game set with the Red Sox, who have much to be excited about with Carl Crawford's expected season debut Monday night...

Boston Red Sox Rumors: Carl Crawford Being Shopped

Carl Crawford finally came off the disabled list on Monday, so obviously now is the time to trade him, right? Apparently that’s what the Boston Red Sox are thinking. Major league sources have told FoxSports’ Ken Rosenthal that Boston is aggressively shopping Crawford around the league and has been in contact with multiple teams concerning a shop. While Red Sox general manager...

Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury Starting to Fulfill Bobby Valentine's Desire for Aggressive Baserunning

BOSTON -- This is the aggressiveness that Bobby Valentine imagined. During spring training, the Red Sox skipper preached the importance of speeding around the base paths. With Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury sidelined with injuries, however, the Red Sox had lost the luxury of speed. Until now. Despite dropping Tuesday's game to the White Sox 7-5, the Red Sox showed flashes...

With Ortiz Out, Pressure Shifts To Gonzalez

Adrian Gonzalez hits a three run home run in the eighth inning of last night’s game against the White Sox, giving the Red Sox the lead for good. Adrian Gonzalez took a step in the right direction last night. His Eighth inning home run lifted Boston past Kevin Youkilis and the Chicago White Sox, but on that very play, Designated hitter David Ortiz hurt his Achilles tendon rounding...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 7/18

After falling to Youk's 7-5 last night, the Boston Red Sox look to secure at least a split tonight in the third game of a four-game set with the Chicago White Sox at historic Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the White Sox television market, you can watch the game on CSN Chicago...
