The Evil Empire:
According to Pete Caldera the Yankees have optioned Alfredo Aceves and Dan Giese Scranton. And Brett Tomko was reassigned to the minor-league camp, he'll also be at Scranton.
"I'm extremely disappointed because I felt like I pitched my way onto this team," Tomko said.
They both pitched very well, Tomko went 1-1 with a 1.17 ERA. In 15.1 IP he allowed 2 earned runs on 12 hits, walked two, and struck out 12. and Albaladejo had a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 IP, and allowed 1 run on 8 hits, walked 1 and struck out 8.
THOUGHTS FROM A DIE-HARD YANKEES FAN:
Ever since Jonathan Albaladejo came over to the Yankees he's pitched good enough to be on the team. Unfortunately for him he got hit it with the injury bug. It's not all about spring taining stats although Tomko pitched great, too. Apparently Girardi feels that combination of Albaladejo and Phil Coke will do the job in the long relief role.
Tomko shouldn't keep his hopes up. 09 is a long season.
Now all that's left is the utility job. I'm guessing they'll go with Berroa since he's more experienced and Pena has not even reached AAA yet. I'd rather see Ramiro make the team though because he's a better defender. Berroa has the better bat but I'm afraid he'll turn into Betemit pt 2. This is a tough one.
