Found July 17, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Sandy Alderson is happy that tings have gotten better and credits Eric Young Jr. for part of the turnaround. He had his eye on him for a while and felt fortunate when he was placed on waivers and that he happened to have someone on waivers too, so he called the Rockies and it clicked. Alderson spoke to Mike Francesa yesterday and they had a substantial discussion on a variety of topics. I broke it up into a series of three posts. Alderson on Marlon Byrd: “What I’ve said for some time is that we wanted to stockpile talent without compromising the competitiveness of the major league team. Regardless of what happens this is now about changing perceptions. For two seasons we became less competitive in the second half and Marlon will help keep that from happening again.” (As I’ve maintained all along, Byrd isn’t going anywhere.) Why The Mets Should Trade Byrd

The Mets right now are on a bit of a hot streak. They’ve been playing the better part of a month well and have closed quite a bit of ground, at least in the rate they were losing it, to get to .500. Let’s be realistic, half a season worth of Marlon Byrd is not going cause a contending team to part with a top prospect.  Buster Olney pretty much hit the nail on the head with this tweet last week: There was a problem connecting to Twitter. If Byrd’s performance to date hasn’t caused other teams to view him as a ‘difference maker’, then it makes sense that the Mets front...

Three Mets trade scenarios

Sandy Alderson wants the Mets to remain competitive for the remainder of the reason. So the GM will not be trading off pieces to clear room for prospects to play unless the organization receives a noteworthy return. "What we've been trying to do for the last several years is stockpile talent, clear payroll with significant complications, and then be as competitive as we...
