The Mets announced prior to last night's game that Alex Cora will undergo season ending surgery. Apparently both of Cora's thumbs need surgery and the veteran will be out for the rest of the season.I can't say enough about Cora, brought in as a role player, he ended up starting and becoming a clubhouse leader. Playing through pain, he was the type of gritty tough player that we had been clamouring for years and in a different season might have been the final piece.I have to believe that Cora was attempting to hold on until Reyes came back and either the pain became too much or finally reached the conclusion that the season was over and Reyes wasn't coming back. “To be honest with you, I can’t be disappointed, especially knowing that the left one was like that, too,” Cora said. “Just looking back, I’m very proud of what I tried to accomplish, and I tried to help this team to win, you know, and now I got to take care of myself, I guess.” source NY Times
