The Red Sox and Orioles played a 17-inning marathon last season at Fenway Park, with the O’s taking the win on an Adam Jones homer. The two teams went 13 frames Thursday night, but it was a much softer hit then allowed Baltimore to walk away victorious. Chris Davis, who is known for his home-run power, knocked a bloop single into left field off Alex Wilson, bringing the winning run home from second. Wilson said he approached Davis the way he planned to, but the big first baseman was able to muscle out a base hit, bringing the extra-inning affair to a close. To hear more from Wilson’s postgame comments, check out the video above.

Baltimore Orioles: Chris Davis is soaring despite early career hiccups

Chris Davis watches his homerun jet out of Camden Yards (photo credit: Mark Goldman/Icon SMI) The man they call “Crush” is at it again. This time, Chris Davis ended the game not with homerun smashed onto Eutaw Street, but a bloop single the opposite way that was just out of reach of both Red Sox SS Stephen Drew and LF Jonny Gomes that allowed Nick Markakis to score and gave the...

Boston Red Sox call up pitcher De La Rosa, option Wilson

Associated Press According to a report from WEEI’s Alex Speier, the Boston Red Sox have called up pitcher Rubby De La Rosa from Triple-A Pawtucket.  He has served the role of starting pitcher for the Pawsox all year, but will be coming out of the bullpen for the Local Nine.  For Pawtucket this season,  he has compiled a 0-1 record with a 3.29 ERA in 11 starts that span 38 1...

Sox get fresh arm in bullpen

The Red Sox have called up RHP, Rubby De La Rosa, and optioned Alex Wilson to Pawtucket. De La Rosa  came over from LA in the massive trade last August and has been pitching fairly well in Pawtucket. Some call Rubby Carlos De La Rosa the best pitching prospect in the Sox system, and he has looked it. In 11 starts with Pawtucket, Rubby is 0-1, with a 3.29 ERA. RDLR has 38 K'...

Rubby De La Rosa Called Up by Red Sox, Alex Wilson Optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket

It’s Rubby time. The Red Sox announced Friday that Rubby De La Rosa has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, while Alex Wilson was optioned back to Triple-A following Thursday’s game. De La Rosa, who the Red Sox acquired in last August’s megadeal with the Dodgers, adds an extremely live arm to Boston’s pitching staff, which needs reinforcements following two extra-inning...

Chris Davis rescues O's in 13th

Chris Davis singled home the tiebreaking run with two outs in the 13th inning, giving the Baltimore Orioles an exhausting 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a four-game series between AL East contenders. Danny Valencia homered for the Orioles, who moved into second place and within 2 1/2 games of Boston. Baltimore won despite leaving 16 on base and going 4 for...

Chris Davis and David Murphy, in the Zone

For Chris Davis and David Murphy, “in the zone” doesn’t extend to the mound. Each has a successful pitching performance on his resume, but in neither case was there a feeling of being in command. Their scoreless outings — in distinctly different situations — were more “lucked out” than “locked in.” Murphy made his pitching debut last week, at Fenway Park. With his...

Red Sox call up pitching prospect Rubby de la Rosa

Boston Red Sox call up Rubby de la Rosa The Red Sox will add right-hander Rubby de la Rosa to their depleted bullpen for tonight's second game against the Orioles. In a corresponding move the Red Sox sent right-hander Alex Wilson to Triple A Pawtucket, who pitched fairly well giving up one run in 2-2/3 innings.  De La Rosa was apart of the blockbuster nine player trade between...

Red Sox Would Do Well Not to Try One-Upping Yankees With Late Dramatics Against Orioles (Video)

The Yankees and Athletics battled into the 18th inning on Thursday night, but that’s probably not something the Red Sox should have much interest in doing themselves. After all, the last time the Sox had to play the Orioles in that long of a game, it didn’t end too well for them. Besides, Chris Davis is enough to handle at the plate right now without needing to worry about him...

Red Sox-Orioles Preview

The 37-29 Baltimore Orioles will start a four game series with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. The Orioles are staying in the division and wild card race and their offense has carried them this season.  The Orioles are in the top 10 in four different hitting categories, runs, batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. First baseman Chris Davis is having...

Orioles 2, Red Sox 0

There's still more than half a season left to play, so there's no reason for the Baltimore Orioles to become overly excited about their current situation. Then again, what harm is there in enjoying the moment? Chris Tillman took a two-hitter into the seventh inning, Chris Davis hit his major league-leading 22nd home run and the Orioles blanked the Boston Red Sox 2-0 Friday...

Recap: Davis bloop hit gives Orioles walkoff in extra innings

The Red Sox decided Boston fans hadn't quite had enough. It wasn't enough that we stayed up past 1 a.m. last night to watch the Bruins lose in three overtimes; now we had to sit through 13 innings to see Baltimore finally put away the Red Sox, 5-4.  Alex Wilson, on in his third inning of relief, clearly tired in the 13th. He had pitched well in the 11th and 12th, but walked...

The new AL East rivalry

Sam Galanis Contributing Writer Photo by Jonathan Ernst/Getty Images The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry has stood for over one hundred years at this point, and the Red Sox-Rays rivalry has been clearing benches for a little over ten years. But the Red Sox-Orioles rivalry is fairly new to the AL East. The Baltimore Orioles were the basement dwellers of the AL East for what feels like...
