Fox Sports Wisconsin:
With the week the Milwaukee Brewers have been through, salvaging a series split with the San Diego Padres would mean a lot.
So would another strong outing from Yovani Gallardo.
Gallardo goes for a third straight winning decision Thursday in the finale of this four-game set.
After news broke Monday that 2011 NL MVP Ryan Braun would be suspended for the remainder of the season for violations of Major League Baseball's drug policy, the Brewers (42-58) dropped the first two games of this series, getting four hits in each.
Milwaukee, though, won 3-1 on Wednesday behind All-Star Carlos Gomez's career high-tying four hits and two RBI.
"We really needed a little bit of good news after this week," starter Kyle Lohse said. "We have to focus on the job we have to do. This season has not turned out the way I or anyone on this team thought it would. But we have to focus on the next two months and go out and win as many games as we can."

BEST OF MAXIM
MILWAUKEE -- For the vast majority of his first six seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, Yovani Gallardo has been a model of consistency.
The only pattern Gallardo has followed this season has been one of inconsistency. After another shaky start in Thursday afternoon's 10-8 loss to San Diego, Gallardo was puzzled as to why he can't put things together.
Coming off an outing...
MILWAUKEE -- Coming off a face-to-face meeting with his suspended slugger, Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio spoke publicly Wednesday for the first time since Ryan Braun accepted a 65-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Monday.
Displaying an appearance and using a tone that suggested he was deeply hurt by what's transpired over the past few days, Attanasio feels...
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Donovan Hand left in the fifth inning Tuesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego with a right hand contusion.
Hand was hit with a 96 mph fastball from Padres right-hander Tyson Ross in the bottom of the third inning and stayed in to pitch the top of the fourth before turning the ball over to Tyler Thornburg for the fifth inning.
MILWAUKEE -- During his time with the Milwaukee Brewers, John Axford has had the chance to watch two of the more successful closers in baseball history.
When Axford first arrived in the big leagues, Trevor Hoffman was there to take him under his wing. With the exclusion of the first month of this season, Francisco Rodriguez has shared the back end of Milwaukee's bullpen with...
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has let an entire fan base down in 2013, effectively erasing any remaining hope the team may have had of making the playoffs after admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs and accepting a suspension for the rest of the season. But despite losing an endorsement deal and $3.8 million in salary, [...]
Milwaukee Brewers' pitcher Donovan Hand threw lightly on Wednesday, a day after being hit by a pitch on his throwing hand. Although his hand is sore, Hand expects to make his next start.
As reported by Adam McCalvy and Kevin Massoth of MLB.com,
"Hand took a third-inning Tyson Ross fastball to his hand while squaring
around to bunt Tuesday and departed after throwing...
Many Milwaukee Brewers fans are still stunned by Ryan Braun coming out and admitting that he cheated. Braun won an appeal for a positive drug test last year because of an error in the collection process of his urine sample, and many people thought he was out of the woods after that. Now that he [...]
Ryan Braun's selfishness has doomed the Brewers, who can't simply
buy a more sympathetic star.
Kyle Lohse pitched seven strong innings and Carlos Gomez had four hits and drove in two runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.
It was the Brewers' first win since left fielder Ryan Braun was suspended Monday for the remainder of the 2013 season for violations of Major League Baseball's drug policy.
Lohse (7-7) gave...
Despite being banned from the game for nearly a quarter of a century, Pete Rose continues to be an outspoken figure in the Major League Baseball world.
His latest comments come just days after the league decided to hand down a hefty suspension to Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun for his connection to the Biogenesis scandal. Rose, who was banned from baseball in 1989 after being...
Teams have been calling the Brewers about their pitchers. The pitchers that have been garnering most of the medias attention are John Axford and Mike Gonzalez, but teams have shown interest in starters Yovani Gallardo and Kyle Lohse, according to reports. While teams are interested, are the Brewers willing to deal them?
According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Milwaukee...
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, who finished runner-up to Ryan Braun in voting for the 2011 National League Most Valuable Player award, thinks the suspended Milwaukee Brewers slugger should be stripped of the honor.
Braun finished with 388 points and 20 first-place votes, to 332 and 10 for Kemp. Major League Baseball attempted to suspend Braun following a positive test...
