ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels got contributions from a future star and a current star Monday night, as Mike Trout and Albert Pujols led the Angels to a 5-1 decision over the New York Yankees for their eighth consecutive win. New York loaded the bases off Ernesto Frieri to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but Frieri struck out Robinson Cano to end the game. Frieri hasn't allowed a hit or a run in his first 12 innings as an Angel. Trout, a 20-year-old who is hitting .304, has been a catalyst for the Angels and has helped dramatically turn around their season. The Angels held a 6-14 record when they recalled the leadoff man from Triple-A Salt Lake on April 28, and they are 20-11 since. Pujols had two hits, scored two runs and drove in a pair with his two-run home run in the third inning, his eighth homer of the season and his fifth in his past eight games. Trout and Pujols helped make a winner out of Dan Haren (3-5), who allowed just one run...
BEST OF MAXIM
(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By GREG BEACHAM AP Sports Writer Mike Trout chuckles at the memory of his major league debut. As a raw 19-year-old with minimal minor-league experience, his head was often spinning during two call-ups over nine weeks with the Los Angeles Angels.
One season later, at the ripe old age of 20, Trout feels he's much more prepared to do his thing...
Turn away Cardinals fans, the old Pujols is back! The Angels fell just short of their ninth straight win, and a series sweep of the Yankees, on Wednesday night as Pujols went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. This came on the heels of the team's longest winning streak of the season. After the nine game stretch, the Los Angeles Angels are now an even 26-26, including an 18-11Â recordÂ...
If you're favorite team has to play the Angels soon, be sad they didn't get to play them sooner in the season. As the saying goes, the Angels are on fire, and specifically, Mr. Pujols. The Machine is clicking. Angels fans, this is the Big Al you've been waiting for.Last seven days:He's gotten his batting average up to .238. Keep in mind, it was just two weeks ago that...
Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels continues to amaze everyone with his defense and— for the second night in a row— he robbed the New York Yankees of a home run with a sensational catch by going up the wall.
The 20-year old left fielder crashed into the fence at Angel Stadium to take away what looked like a solo home run from Nick Swisher in the second inning of Tuesday night...

This morning, I included a link to a story about how Mike Trout faces a higher percentage of fastballs than any hitter in the league. That was very interesting, but once I paid a little more attention to that article, I noticed something else very interesting:
PlayerPct. Fastballs Seen
Ten years after the franchise's only championship run, the Angels are being reminded of a key find during that 2002 World Series run. Right-hander Francisco Rodriguez, then 20 years old, was a September call-up in 2002. He struck out 13 in his first 5 2/3 innings, was added to the post-season roster and quickly became a bullpen weapon deployed by manager Mike Scioscia all the...
The American League, long assumed to be the offensive brother in Major League Baseball, was supposed to come into its own in 2012. A bevy of hitters were filling its ranks, and the National League coughed up two of its best sluggers, Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder, to long-term deals in the American League. But heading into June, with 50 or so games complete, the storylines have...
The Los Angeles Angles look like they have two capable options to close out games now as Scott Downs and Ernesto Frieri each picked up two saves last week. Downs is still unscored upon in 16 innings this season and has a 0.88 WHIP while Frieri has 11 scoreless innings since coming over to the National League with 23 strikeouts. Frieri has the better arm, as shown with no hits...
I just want to say off the bat that I love so much that the Yankees are getting caught up in the middle of this Angels firestorm. This is the longest winning streak the Angels have had in the past 3 seasons dating back to their 8 win streak in 2009, the last time the Angels made the playoffs. I don't know about you guys, but that gets my pants real tight. You know what else gets...
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo homered, Dan Haren pitched into the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels extended their longest winning streak in nearly three years to eight games with a 5-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Mike Trout hit a run-scoring triple for the Angels, who have won 11 of 15. After a rough start to a season of high...
Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. While Albert Pujols struggled early on this season, Prince Fielder has been fantastic since the beginning of the year. That's not to say the Angels made a bad move in inking Pujols to a monster...
