Boston Red Sox
Los Angeles Angels
BOSTON -- Right-hander Clay Buchholz had been emerging as the Boston Red Sox ace this season after a string of strong starts. That changed Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Angels roughed him up at Fenway Park on their way to a 7-3 win. Buchholz (11-4) lasted just 5 1/3 innings and matched career highs with seven earned runs and 12 hits allowed. He also surrendered a home run while walking one and striking out three. His ERA rose to 4.47. "I thought Clay had pretty good stuff tonight, just they hit some good pitches," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine. "And he was in the middle of the plate with a couple of pitches and maybe a little higher than he's been normally. So it was all about location and probably he was missing his location." "Balls left up in the zone," Buchholz said. "Can't throw pitches consistently up there and expect to get away with it against a team like that. The other side of it, I thought I made a lot of good p...

I just said that it would be a dream scenario for the Dodgers to take Josh Beckett alongside Adrian Gonzalez in any sort of trade.
Well, Sean McAdam just confirmed that the dream could become a reality. Beckett has also been claimed by the Dodgers off of the waiver wire.
Disgruntled Sox fans can already be heard celebrating but before we continue this fiesta, let's remember...
It's time for the fans to make a stand. There are multiple reports out there that only four current members of the Boston Red Sox went to Johnny Pesky's funeral.
The players in attendance at the Swampscott funeral on Monday were David Ortiz, Clay Buchholz, Vicente Padilla, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, according to a report.
Look, I have bashed Lucchino with every post, but...
Josh Beckett, like many major leaguers this time of the year, has been placed on waivers, according to a report. CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports via Twitter that the Red Sox have placed the veteran right-hander on waivers, but he's not expected to be claimed. Josh Beckett is on trade waivers now. Competing execs don't expect him to be claimed. #redsox — Jon Heyman...
BOSTON -- Adrian Gonzalez wanted no parted in discussing his status on waivers Friday afternoon. "Do you have baseball questions?" Gonzalez asked. "Waiver questions? I'm not talking about that." With no questions other than ones about the Dodgers claiming him on waivers, Gonzalez walked away from reporters and disappeared into the back of the clubhouse. But...
Pedro Ciriaco will be batting leadoff for the third straight game as Jacoby Ellsbury continues to hit out of the No. 2 hole. While the Red Sox offense continues to struggle, Adrian Gonzalez will get the night off in the field at least as he'll be DHing out of the No. 4 hole for Boston. Mauro Gomez, who has been back and forth between Pawtucket and the big club a few times this...
The Red Sox have been reluctant to give David Ortiz a multi-year deal, and given the slugger's age and body type, it's probably understandable. That being said, there isn't a hitter in the Red Sox lineup who's more important to the club, and while one might think that the designated hitter's extended battle with an Achilles injury might make Boston more skiddish...
This one can be summed up in six words - Clay Buchholz simply didn't have it. After having gone 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his last 6 starts, Buchholz (pictured) gave up 7 runs on 12 hits and 1 walk in 5.1 innings in a 7-3 Red Sox loss to the Angels at Fenway Park.Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver held Boston to 2 runs; he scattered 7 hits while striking out 5 over 7 innings...
Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine's words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. When the dust settles -- if it does -- this will be the game when the Red Sox turned the page. Trading away $270 million worth of contracts will do that for a team, after all. There...
It was officially announced that Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford will have season-ending Tommy John surgery this Thursday. After discussing the idea with management, all were in agreement that now is the best time. After having such a terrible season last year, respect must be given to Crawford for attempting to play this season so he can prove to everyone...
It now rests in the hands of Red Sox upper management where two of their star players will ultimately end up. According to a report from ESPN ScoreCenter, both first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and pitcher Josh Beckett were claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving the Sox to either trade them, allow them to leave, or retain them. They are also apparently trying to shop...
The fact that the Dodgers claimed Adrian Gonzalez off of trade waivers is not that big of a deal. The Sox were likely just seeing what teams might be interested before pulling him back. The fact that the Dodgers also claimed Josh Beckett is big news. This has to signal a package deal with Gonzo and Beckett heading to LA. It is very unlikely that the Dodgers would take Beckett...
The Red Sox/Yankees rivalry did not attract big-time numbers last weekend. In other news, the PGA Wyndham Championship drew lower numbers for rainout coverage, and the NASCAR Nationwide Series suffered a modest decline for coverage from Montreal. Fairly Mediocre Numbers For Red Sox/Yankees: Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Yankees/Red Sox in 72% of markets drew a mere...
Kendrys Morales led off Los Angeles' two-run 10th inning with a solo homer, and the Angels completed a three-game sweep of Boston by outlasting the Red Sox 14-13 on Thursday night.
The Red Sox wasted a 6-0 lead then rallied from deficits of 8-7 in the sixth and 12-11 in the ninth. But closer Alfredo Aceves struggled after Boston was one out away from victory in the ninth. Aceves...
NESN’s Jenny Dell has been the LONE BRIGHT SPOT in this LOST Red Sox season. “The Baconator” has maintained a POSITIVE attitude and continues to flash that MILLION DOLLAR smile game after MEANINGLESS game.
She has made EVERYONE forget about Heidi What’s Her Name.
But some fans’ INFATUATION has bordered on CREEPY and DOWNRIGHT STALKERISH.
First off, the still...
"In Boston, there is always a novel -- in here they never talk about baseball; it's always the same. That's one of the reasons why I almost never talk to the press here. Very few times they ask me about baseball. But most of the time it's about gossip, rumors, plots, well ... a soap opera. When they talk to me about baseball, I'm available. But that does...
