Early Tuesday morning, Buster Olney reiterated that the Los Angeles Angels would be willing to trade Mark Trumbo or Peter Bourjos in exchange for pitching. This is a road that the Mets have been down before and an actively debated one among Mets fans. While I’m not an advocate for trading any of the team’s valuable arms for anything short of a certified impact player, it is an issue worth bringing to the forefront again. Peter Bourjos is a nice player, especially on defense but he is what he is and that’s a glorified fourth outfielder. The player that has been on the Mets radar for some time is Mark Trumbo. Say what you want about his high strikeout rate and low on-base percentage but at the end of the day, Trumbo is a power hitting 1B/OF that would go a long way toward protecting David Wright in the lineup. It’s no secret that Wright’s best numbers we...

Angels unlikely to make Jason Vargas a qualifying offer; to pursue pitching via trade

The Angels have only one free agent, pitcher Jason Vargas, and they have until 2 p.m. Monday to decide whether to extend a one-year, $14.1-million qualifying offer to the left-hander who went 9-8 with a 4.02 earned-run average in 24 starts during an injury-plagued 2013 season. 2013 Offseason Primer: Los Angeles Angels

The Angels have drawn a lot of attention to themselves the last few winters thanks to some significant and arguably reckless spending on big time free agents like Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. Before Gibson’s Homer, There Was Scioscia’s

From The True Blue Crew Insider, Rick Tamashiro Most of us remember where we were when Gibson hit the home run. I was at a wedding. Dinner had ended and they were about to start the program but half of the guests, including myself, were in the hotel bar watching the ninth and refusing to go back to the ballroom until the inning was over. Even the MC of the...

Angels Free Agency Primer: Bullpen

The Angels bullpen has been such a massive, raging brushfire the last few seasons that Australian fire departments keep mistakenly showing up in Anaheim to try and help put it out. We keep hearing about how bullpen arms are fungible assets and that teams should be able to stumble into a decent bullpen almost by accident, yet here we are heading into an off-season where the Halos...
