Dan Murphy is set to start the season as the Mets starting left fielder and is hitting .357 this spring. Murphy has gained the trust of the manager to the extent that he was scheduled to sit tonight against a tough lefty but instead started and while he struggled in the field, he went 3-4 with two RBIs. What's amazing about Murphy is not only was he in AA a year ago but he wasn't listed on anyones prospect list. I can understand how his glove could drop his ranking but how could every "expert" miss his bat.....The Mets have another player this spring who may have slipped pasted the scouts. Jonathan Malo is a 25 y/o infielder who played AA last year and isn't on anyones radar except Jerry Manuel's. It's Malo's slick fielding glove that has drawn the manager's attention, as he's only hitting .194. Malo will go to AAA this year and if can learn to hit respectably for a defensive replacement, then he might be added to the growing list of Met far...
