I don't know what's more amazing -- the fact that Johan Santana has only given up 2 earned runs in three starts or that if he allowed another 4 runs in those three games he could be 0-3 and his ERA would still be under 2.
I thought Santana's most dominating start of the season was the hard-luck loss to the Marlins his second time out, but this one was a nice piece of work, too.
I love the way Santana attacks hitters. After issuing an uncharacteristically high 5 walks on a blustery opening day in Cincinnati, he has issued only 1 in his last 14 innings. He has thrown 299 pitches so far this season, and 199 have been strikes. You would hope some of the other starters would watch and learn.
Gary Sheffield played a creditable LF yesterday. While he's not tearing it up at the plate, he hasn't looked that bad, either. I guess this whole experiment can work, although I still expect it won't. I just don't see how he will hit well enough in a part time role, and he certainly wouldn't hold up playing the OF full time.
Forgive the lack of timeliness this week. On top of my own issues, my mother has been experiencing some health problems. I'm doing some things for her to help out. It would be an understatement to say we haven't always had the best relationship over the years, but she's the only mother I have. My free time is practically down to zero now, so I can only do my best as far as updating this blog.
Don't forget my friends at Ticket Solutions, who can set you up with Mets Tickets and Yankees Tickets. (Even if you're not a Yankees fan, don't miss your chance to witness history -- like yesterday's historic butt-whipping.)
Finally, once again our friend Gary Sparber has come through with terrific pictures from Santana's masterpiece. Check them out.
