(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer The Texas Rangers are sliding in September again, heading into their final series against Oakland.
Despite losing nine of their last 12 games, the Rangers still have a tight hold on the AL's top wild-card spot. But that slump has taken them from a three-game lead in the AL West to three games behind the A's.
The Rangers were in first place a majors-high 178 games last season, but lost nine of their last 13 games. They were swept at Oakland to end the regular season, with the A's taking the AL West title by beating Texas in the last game.
Oakland is at Texas on Friday, the start of the last regular-season series between the AL West's top two teams.
Texas has 14 games after that.
