After Friday's rain out, the White Sox got their series started at home against the Minnesota Twins Saturday afternoon, but unfortunately it was a familiar sight for 2013 Sox followers. It was yet another pitcher's duel, as both Jake Peavy and Vance Worley brought their A-games. Both pitchers went 7 innings, allowing only one run before handing it over to their respective bullpens. After Alejandro De Aza led off the game with a home run for the south siders, the Sox couldn't produce anything at all. The most trouble came from the team's 2, 3, and 4 hitters going a combined 0-for-12 with five strikeouts. Although we can't complain about what Alex Rios (.328) has done for us this year, Jeff Keppinger (.159) and Adam Dunn (.098) continue to be huge problem areas for the ball club. But after the bullpen (Lindstrom, Veal, Jones, Crain, Thornton) scrapped together two scoreless innings, the teams headed into extra innings as the Sox hoped to escape with yet another close victory. But then in the top of the 10th inning, another familiar problem area for the 2013 Sox came about. With one out and a runner on 2nd base, Alexei Ramirez committed a throwing error that allowed the game-winning run to score for the Twins. Although we've all been fairly confident that this team would be able to field well, since they were so great defensively a year ago, it's starting to look more and more like this will be a recurring issue throughout the season. The Sox are pitching well overall - that's for sure. But you can't not hit or field and expect to win ball games ... the Sox are going to have to start doing at least one of the two well, or this season could get out of hand by the time summer rolls around.
