San Francisco Giants
For the second consecutive game the Arizona Diamondbacks have blown a late lead to a divisional rival. Yesterday J.J. Putz had his first blown save since May and Monday he repeated that performance against the San Francisco Giants who beat the Diamondbacks 9-8 in extra innings at San Francisco.
The Diamondbacks had a 8-5 lead heading into the eighth inning which is a spot they normally feel comfortable in the way David Hernandez and J.J. Putz have been pitching this year. Hernandez entered the game in the eighth in his setup role and after retiring the first two batters the Giants tallied three straight hits off Hernandez to score two runs and trim the D-backs lead to 8-7.
Hector Sanchez sparked the rally for the Giants with a two out double. Shortstop Brandon Crawford then followed with a double of his own to drive in Sanchez and Brandon Belt capped off the scoring in the eighth with a pinch-hit RBI single.
The wild back and fourth featured plenty of offense right from the beginnin...
BEST OF MAXIM
The NL West leading (4.5 games) San Francisco Giants came home yesterday after going 5-1 on the road in Houston and Chicago.
Yesterdays game seemed like it was going to be a frustrating let down as the Giants blew a 4-0 lead to be down 7-4. However, they kept chipping away and managed to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and then won it in the bottom of the 10th with a...
The NL West-leading San Francisco Giants have one of baseball's best rotations, but they haven't been pitching up to their lofty standards lately.
Madison Bumgarner is a part of this disturbing trend, and a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks might not help him out of his funk.
Bumgarner tries to avoid losing a third straight start and put an end to his struggles with...
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Aaron Hill had a career-high five hits and Jason Kubel tripled home the tiebreaking run in the 11th inning to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks over the San Francisco Giants 8-6 on Tuesday night.
The first-place Giants used 11 pitches, matching a major league record for extra-inning games. They remained 4 games ahead of Los Angeles in the NL West because the Dodgers...
Pablo Sandoval would seem like an unlikely candidate to be involved in two of baseball’s most athletic plays of the season, but the Panda has turned in two amazing plays over the past few weeks. After Sandoval and Brandon Crawford teamed up for an unreal tandem catch last week, the hefty third baseman made highlight reels again last night after laying out to snag a (crappy)...
Adam Eaton made a giant splash in the minor leagues this season. Now the Arizona Diamondbacks will get a chance to see how Eaton handles the final step up. Eaton singled and doubled and in the D-backs' 8-6, 11-inning victory over the San Francisco Giants in his first major league game Tuesday. His contract was purchased from Class AAA Reno, and he was inserted into the lineup...
Melky Cabrera won't go away.
Even as the first-place San Francisco Giants have moved on -- quite famously, in fact, with a 13-7 record since his steroid suspension -- Cabrera's name remains a nuisance to any fan who checks the National League batting statistics.
That's right: Cabrera still leads the league with a .346 batting average.
At a time when Major League Baseball...
SAN FRANCISCO -- Marco Scutaro was not considered a major addition when he was acquired from the Rockies by Giants general manager Brian Sabean just before the July 31 trading deadline. However, Scutaro has been a significant asset for the Giants, and he came up big again on Monday. He had three hits and was the hero with a two-out single to left, scoring Brandon Crawford with...
Trevor Cahill took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Francisco Giants 6-2 Wednesday night in a game in which the benches cleared after a tag play at third base.
Cahill didn't give up a hit until Marco Scutaro led off the seventh with a single. He allowed another single and walked the bases loaded before being lifted for a reliever...
The San Francisco Giants had an outstanding month of August going 18-11 that includes a very impressive 13-4 mark on the road and 5-7 record at home.
The month saw three three-game sweeps on the road against the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros.
The month was all about offense as the team became potent when Angel Pagan returned back to the leadoff spot in...
SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants blew a 4-0 lead, but scored a run in the ninth to tie it and managed to win in extra innings on Monday. Marco Scutaro had three hits and was the hero with a two-out single to left, scoring Brandon Crawford as the Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-8 in 10 innings. Crawford legged out an infield single to lead off the 10th inning....
The San Francisco Giants held Star Wars Day at AT&T Park during Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and many fans got into the spirit by dressing up as their favorite characters.

This is not the team the Giants expected to make the September charge to take the 2012 National League West title. Not even close. But it is a team succeeding in strange and unconventional ways to the extent they are now third in National League wins with 76 (behind Cincinnati with 82 and Washington with 81), and fourth overall in baseball (tied with the New York Yankees). To understand...
Some of this advice may seem a little repetitive to some of you, but I’m okay with that. I know that in addition to being fantasy players, most of you are serious baseball fans. Still, I know a few who like fantasy more than the actual game itself, and even as a die-hard fan, something really struck me on Thursday night (August 30) as I was watching the Giants and Astros play....
Pompous pundits, soccer moms, and the sports world at large have taken umbrage at the intravenous antics of San Francisco Giants’ Melky Cabera and the Oakland Athletics’ Bartolo Colon. Branded as cheats for using a banned “performance-enhancing” substance, that was detected by an analysis of a urine sample submitted by the players. Each player has accepted a 50 game suspension...
LOS ANGELES -- The Diamondbacks were this close to finishing their mission here Sunday, which made the ending all the more frustrating.
Two outs from taking three of four games from Los Angeles as a momentum-building run-up to a series in San Francisco, the D-backs' stinging walkoff loss cluttered their path to a possible postseason berth that much more.
"This one here...
