The Diamondbacks appear to be one of the teams interested in Colorado Rockies third baseman Ian Stewart, according to SI’s Jon Heyman. The Sports Illustrated writer believes that Stewart will end up elsewhere this offseason with the busy Rockies having already moved Ty Wigginton and Chris Iannetta.
Baltimore, Seattle, Pittsburgh, the Angels and Cubs are the other teams showing interest in the third baseman, according to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports. According to a couple of reports, the Rox have already shot down an offer of Blake DeWitt from Chicago.
There have been no indications on what Arizona’s offer is, if they even have offered one, but you would imagine that Colorado would ask for one of the Diamondbacks prized young arms. With what Kevin Towers has said in the past about holding onto the organization’s young pitching, it would be hard to see the two sides coming to an agreement on a deal unless position players were involved.
