Rookie left-hander Patrick Corbin had the best game of his 19-game major-league career Sunday, and it was not even close. It even included a head-first slide.

Multi-tasking Corbin stood out on both sides of the ball in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 10-2 victory over San Francisco, giving up two runs in a career-high eight innings while driving in the first four runs of his career. His bases-loaded triple keyed a five-run fourth inning that broke a tie at 2 and helped the D-backs avoid a sweep and stay 4 1/2 games behind St. Louis for the second NL wild card.

Corbin (6-7) gave up eight hits and struck out five while using only 93 pitches. He had innings of six, seven, eight and 10 pitches while working with catcher Miguel Montero.

"Miggy called a great game. I didn't think too much out there. Whatever he called, I threw," Corbin said.

Corbin grounded a ball inside the bag at first base for his triple after Paul Goldschmidt reached on an infield error to open the fourth. Cody Ransom doubled and Gerardo Parra was intentionally walked to bring up Corbin, who had struck out looking in the second inning.

"You are sitting fastball, just trying to put the bat on the ball. My first at-bat, he threw two heaters in, and I just stood there. I didn't even take the bat off my shoulder. He got to two strikes again. That's what I was sitting on," Corbin said.

His single in the eighth put the cherry on top.

"I think that's my career high," Hill said with a chuckle about Corbin's four RBI. "He did a great job. It was a fun day for him. It was fun to watch."

Corbin was in command of three pitches until the end. He gave up a single and a double to put runners on second and third with no outs in the eighth inning before striking out Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey on breaking balls and getting Hunter Pence to fly out.

"Probably the most impressive inning because he had guys on and got out of it," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's had some games where he's had low pitch counts, and as soon as he hits the seventh inning, he's done. It was good to see him get through the additional inning. He's a young kid. Gained some confidence. Gained some endurance."
