Indians Baseball Insider:
Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.
Note: The Columbus Clippers game was cancelled due to rain.
SP T.J. House, Akron Aeros: (W, 1-1) 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER/R, 9 K: In what was a masterful outing by House, this might be the springboard House needed to take the next step forward as a prospect. House has been considered by many as one of the top pitching prospects in the Indians' farm system for quite some time, but he's had quite an up and down career. If he can continue to be as brilliant as he was tonight, he can start living up to the hype.
1B Leonardo Castillo, Lake County Captains: 3-5, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, E: At just eighteen years of age, Castillo is a player who is quickly catching the eyes of many. He was labeled as a "prospect on the rise" and a "sleeper" prior to the season, and so far, he's lived...

The Cleveland Indians have recalled infielder Cord Phelps from Triple-A Columbus.
Phelps, 26, began the year on the Minor League disabled list (neck stiffness) and has appeared in two games for the Clippers at second base since his April 14 activation. In a small sample size, Phelps is batting .125 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. He is coming off a spring exhibition season...
On Wednesday afternoon the Cleveland Indians announced that right-handed pitcher Corey Kluber was recalled from Triple-A Columbus and outfielder Michael Bourn was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a lacerated right index finger (retroactive to April 15).
Kluber has made two starts with Columbus this year (12.1IP, 14H, 9R/ER, 1-1 record) and was with the Indians last week from...
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Indians center fielder Michael Bourn will be placed on the 15-day disabled list in the coming days as he recovers from a cut finger.Bourn needed five stitches to close a gash sustained when dived into first on Sunday. Bourn has a large splint on his right index finger and will miss more than a week once he goes on the DL.Manager Terry Francona said the team is ...
After watching Ubaldo Jimenez on Tuesday, I was happy to know Justin Masterson would be taking the hill in this game. In the last five games the Indians had only scored more than two runs once, Saturday’s 9-4 victory over Chicago. With the offense scuffling, a strong starting pitching performance seemed necessary to give the team a chance to even up the...
Smoke Signals is back on the cyberwaves tonight from 10:00pm – 11:00pm EST. The one hour show airs every Tuesday and is hosted by IndiansBaseballInsider.com’s Tony Lastoria and Jim Pete and is brought to you by the Akron Aeros.
In tonight's show, the IBI's Steve Orbanek steps in along with Jim to discuss what transpired in the series opening game between the Indians and...
The IBI Hot List returns this week with the first edition recapping the hot performances to date in the Indians system. This listing is a quick rundown that ranks the hottest and some of the coldest players in the Indians system over the past seven days. Tony chimes in and provides some insight into the performances of players like Jerrud Sabourin, Joey Wendle, Trevor Bauer, Luis...
Terry Francona will always have a special place in the hearts of Red Sox fans, but it won’t necessarily be evident this week.
With the Red Sox facing off against their former skipper during a three-game series in Cleveland, the Sox will have to put aside their affection for Tito and do what he taught them to: win. With John Farrell at the helm now, the new-look Boston squad is...
WILMINGTON, DE- On Wednesday, the Carolina Mudcats dropped their season-high fifth straight game and were swept by the Wilmington Blue Rocks by a score of 6-2. The Mudcats struggled to get anything going offensively all day, ending the road trip 1-5 and 5-7 overall.
The game started out exactly like the Mudcats wanted it to. Designated hitter Tony Wolters slapped a double to...
Tonight, Terry Francona sat in the dugout opposite his old club, managed by his old pitching coach in front of an announced crowd of 9,143 fans. Not to attendance shame the Cleveland fans, but the atmosphere at Progressive Field paled in compassion to anything Francona likely ever experienced in his seven years in Boston.
As Felix Doubront labored through five innings, Cleveland...
The "Radar Report" returns this week, and Tony shares almost three dozen radar readings from players in the Indians' system that he has recorded over the past few weeks. This is a premium site feature which will post about once a month and provide the fastball - and at times the secondary velocities - and in this report he has the readings on several players such as...
As the Red Sox travel away from the confines of Fenway Park for a short three-game road trip, they likely do so with heavy hearts.
However, with tributes to the Boston Marathon tragedy coming in from around the world, the Cleveland Indians are also showing due respect as they welcome the Red Sox to Progressive Field. As noted by multiple Red Sox beat writers, the flag in center field...
The Cleveland Indians traded AA starting pitcher, Eric Berger (he of the infamous mustache) to Houston today in exchange for catcher Chris Wallace. This was a move that was made in response to the lack of catching depth in Akron and Columbus due to the injuries to Lou Marson (neck), Carlos Santana (thumb) and Alex Laviski (toe).
According to the Houston Astros media guide,...
It’s that elusive, sometimes seemingly unattainable goal of trying to upgrade your seats once you get to a game. I’m now convinced that at least one fan of the Cleveland Indians has it figured out.
At Saturday’s contest against the Chicago White Sox, he shared the trick to all 11,422 fans (I was one of them) in attendance.
At first glance...
It has been 15 days since the Phillies claimed outfielder Ezekquiel Carrera off of waivers from the Cleveland Indians. And since that day, Carrera has as many Phillies hits as he had for the Phillies before they acquired him: none. At a time when the Phillies offense cannot seem to...
