Although it has been quiet for our beloved Mets, there are other teams who have been making headlines during the first few weeks of the hot-stove season. So, we at MetsZilla decided to take a trip ‘Around the Web’ to help keep you informed with all the on-goings in this early part of the free-agency period:

First up, the NL West, where the Diamondbacks finalized a two year/$3.8 million deal with Willie Bloomquist. According to CBS Sportline:

The versatile nine-year veteran had declined his end of a $1.1 million mutual option last week in what became a mini-drama, what was characterized as miscommunication between the club and Scott Boras, agent for Bloomquist. In the aftermath of that, the club signed utility infielder John McDonald to a two-year, $3 million deal which led to speculation that Bloomquist’s days in the desert were finished.”

Also in the NL West, Troy Reneck of the Denver Post says, “With the Braves open-minded about trading players, the Rockies have contacted them about infielder Martin Prado, according to a major league source.”

In case you missed it, the S.F. Giants have shipped starter Jonathon Sanchez to the Kansas City Royals for outfielder Melky Cabrera according to MLB TradeRumors.

It seems as if the Florida Marlins are trying to do their best Yankee impression this off-season. They have met with Mark Buehrle and Jose Reyes, are rumored to be going after Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder, and now you can add Carlos Beltran to their list, according to Yahoo’s Tim Brown.

Sticking with the NL East, while it seemed as if the Phillies were close to inking Ryan Madson according to Jon Heyman of SI.com:

(@jim_duquette said 4 yrs). so that'd be 4 for about 44MNovember 8, 2011 5:39 pm via webReplyRetweetFavorite@SI_JonHeymanJon Heyman

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting otherwise, and instead has linked them to Jonathon Papelbon:

While SI.com reported that Phillies general partner David Montgomery has yet to approve the supposed agreement, multiple sources said Wednesday that the two sides never reached a deal.

The Phillies, who also had been talking with the top free-agent closer, Jonathan Papelbon, are reconsidering their options, sources said.”

Papelbon is not the only player linked to the Phils. Reportedly they have instead with Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer:
