OAKLAND, Calif. -- Seth Smith hit a two-run homer and Stephen Drew homered for the first time in an A's uniform and had two RBIs as the Oakland Athletics completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox with a 6-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. Brett Anderson pitched six innings, allowed five hits and a run, walked one and struck out four to earn the victory. Anderson (3-0) missed most of last season and has won each of his three starts sincehis return on August 21 from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. The Athletics roll into September having won a season-best nine in a row. Last year, the Red Sox had an epic collapse and just missed out on clinching a playoff berth. This year, the entire season has been a disappointment, and the final month is simply driving the last nail into the coffin. Daisuke Matsuzaka had his second-worst outing of the season, allowing seven hits and six runs in just 3 2/3 innings. His worst performance was also at Oakland on July 2 when he...

The Oakland A's activated right-handed pitcher A.J. Griffin and third baseman Brandon Inge from the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Collin Cowgill and infielder Brandon Hicks from Class AAA Sacramento, the club announced Saturday. Oakland A's Brandon Inge gives his teammates ice baths after home runs (Video)

Hitting a Major League Baseball home run can be a difficult task and some players wouldn't cooling off after expending all that energy. Over the weekend, Oakland Athletics Brandon Inge decided to help cool down teammates Seth Smith and Stephen Drew after they hit home runs against the Boston Red Sox: Your browser does not support iframes.

Prime Nine: Oakland Athletics

No profile of a team can capture the entire essence of that team and this is doubly true with the Oakland Athletics. A quick look at the prime nine would lead you to believe that their farm system is lacking. It might be in a certain sense, but the parent club has added three or four prime arms and several position players from the prospect ranks. That has a way of reshuffling...

Athletics top BoSox for 9th win in row

As best as he can, Bob Melvin keeps his mind from wandering to what the upstart Oakland Athletics might accomplish by season's end if they keep going like this. Josh Reddick insists it goes for him, too. That's OK, everybody else is doing plenty of scoreboard watching for the A's as this overachieving club tries to get back to the postseason for the first time in six...

Athletics 7, Red Sox 1

Coco Crisp hit a leadoff home run and finished a triple shy of the cycle to back A.J. Griffin's gem, and the surging Oakland Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 7-1 on Saturday night for their season-high eighth straight win. Brandon Inge's two-run double highlighted a four-run third inning against lefty Felix Doubront (10-7) and Chris Carter added his 13th homer to lead another...

If You Ain’t Cheatin’, You Ain’t Tryin’: The Dilemma of Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon

Pompous pundits, soccer moms, and the sports world at large have taken umbrage at the intravenous antics of San Francisco Giants’ Melky Cabera and the Oakland Athletics’ Bartolo Colon. Branded as cheats for using a banned “performance-enhancing” substance, that was detected by an analysis of a urine sample submitted by the players. Each player has accepted a 50 game suspension...

Angels-Athletics Preview

Pitching has been key to the Oakland Athletics' success over Los Angeles, but the Angels have plenty of reason to be concerned about Oakland hitters as well this week. The Athletics will go for their 10th straight win Monday when they open a three-game home series against the Angels. While Los Angeles (71-63) has won nine of 12, it sits 5 1/2 games behind Oakland (76-57) for...

Game Recap 9/3/12: Labor Day Special - Angels 8 Athletics 3

The Angels defeat the Oakland Athletics to get an incredibly important series, which is probably one of the most important series of the season, started on a great note. An offensive pounding of the A's gave way to a lopsided 8-3 Angels victory which brought the Angels a game closer to catching the Wild Card leading A's. A far more efficient C.J Wilson as well as an RBI...

A's thump Red Sox again, win ninth straight

There are some common themes for the beaten down, stumbling Boston Red Sox lately. Their starting pitchers take a pounding early and the hitters are left trying to play catch up. Those hitters still left, that is. Seth Smith hit a two-run homer, Stephen Drew hit a solo shot for his first clout since joining Oakland and the Athletics beat Boston 6-2 on Sunday for their season-best...

Sox Swept Again...This Time By the As!

The Sox took the mound in hopes of not being swept two series in a row.  Dice-K took the mound for the Sox and once again put the offense in a hole early.  He also held the trend of starting pitchers of not lasting very long in the game.  The Sox bats, especially without Papi and Gonzo now have not been able to make up for the runs the starting pitchers have allowed and last night...
