DFA'ed pitcher watches A's game from stands

A’s pitcher and the world’s biggest I Killed the Prom Queen fan Travis Blackley was in the Coliseum on Saturday for the A’s spring finale against the Giants. The only weird thing about that is he was designated for assignment by the A’s on Friday. But Blackley, whose status remains in limbo as he goes through waivers, instead took in the game like any other baseball fan—from...

Travis Blackley DFA'd, Hangs out with Fans.

A long, long time ago. I can still remember how the sunshine made me feel inside. I used to play-ay baseball, at a high school in southern California, And two years behind me was this kid Daric Barton.OK, so I'm not much for making song parodies, but at least I speak da troof. The Oakland Athletics DFA'd a Jordan Norberto, Daric Barton and Travis Blackley yesterday from their...

A's designate for assignment Barton, Blackley

The Oakland Athletics have designated for assignment infielder Daric Barton and left-handed pitcher Travis Blackley. Barton was the longest-tenured player on the A's. The AL West champions needed the roster space Friday after claiming right-hander Danny Otero off waivers from the New York Yankees and righty Josh Stinson off waivers from Milwaukee. A's manager Bob Melvin...

Hiroyuki Nakajima to start season on DL for A's

Hiroyuki Nakajima will start the season on the 15-day disabled list.  As the Oakland A's finalized their roster moves, Nakajima was shifted from the 25-man roster to the DL.  He injured his hamstring last Tuesday.  While he could probably play, the A's want to be cautious. According to Rick Eymer of MLB.com, the A's had to trim their roster down to 25.  Do do...

A's place Young on DL, recall Taylor

The Oakland Athletics placed Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps and recalled fellow outfielder Michael Taylor from Triple-A Sacramento. The team says Taylor took a redeye flight to New York and is available for Saturday's game against the Yankees. Young was injured during Monday night's 19-inning victory over the Angels and was placed...

Knowing the competition: Oakland Athletics

Lowrie’s .330 average against the Yankee is his highest average against any American League opponent.   Threat Level: 8 Oakland winning the AL West in 2012 is a classic example of David beating Goliath, except this David had to beat TWO Goliaths en route to the division crown. The A’s finished ahead of the Rangers and Angels, two teams that dwarf the A’s payroll, but payroll...

Athletics 4, Giants 3

Yoenis Cespedes' slow start to spring training is a distant memory. Now Oakland's slugging outfielder is hoping to carry his hot swing into the regular season. Cespedes homered for the second time in three days, a three-run shot off San Francisco starter Ryan Vogelsong, and the Athletics held on to beat the Giants 4-3 on Saturday in the final tuneup for both teams. Unlike...
