The Oakland A's announced a flurry of roster moves Sunday, including right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy's return to the 15-day disabled list with strained shoulder.

The A's also recalled right-hander Evan Scribner and selected right-hander A.J. Griffin from Class AAA Sacramento. They optioned infielder Eric Sogard and designated Danny Farquhar for assignment to make room for Griffin on the 40-man roster.

McCarthy, who is 6-3 with a 2.54 ERA, is making his second trip to the DL this season after suffering the same injury to his right shoulder. He has pitched once since the last DL stay, throwing seven shutout innings against the Los Angeles Angels on June 8.

Griffin, who has played at Sacramento and Class AA Midland this season, has a combined 6-3 record and a 2.66 ERA in 15 minor-league starts. He was scheduled to make his major-league debut Sunday in a start at home against the San Francisco Giants.

Scribner is making his second stop with the A's this month. He was 3-0 with eight saves and a 3.03 ERA with Sacramento.

Sogard played in one game in his second stint this year with the A's, going 1-for-3 Wednesday while starting at third base. He is hitting .145 with two home runs and six RBI in 22 major-league games this season.
