Pro Sports Daily:
With an eye toward keeping their young pitchers fresh for the stretch drive, the A's are having left-
handed Travis Blackley make a spot start on Saturday at Chicago and pushing back rookies Jarrod Parker and
Tommy Milone, and also right-hander Dan Straily, who came up just a week ago. Blackley, relegated to the bullpen when Straily joined the club, did good work when in the rotation,
going 3-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 10 starts. Parker had allowed 13 runs over his past three starts, and the A's have long said they'd like to find a
way to give him a break or limit his innings when possible. Last year was his first following 2009 Tommy
John surgery. He will get a full week off and, rather than starting Sunday, he will go Tuesday at Kansas
City. Milone also will get a full week off, starting on Friday at home against Cleveland. He has given up 16
runs in his past three starts, and he said he went through a similar stretch in the late summer last year

McCarthy was scheduled to start Friday night's game against the Chicago White Sox. He has not started since June 19 due to a strained right shoulder. McCarthy is 6-3 with a 2.54 ERA in 12 games this...
Oakland A's reliever Ryan Cook has been removed from the closer's role, at least temporarily, by manager Bob Melvin.
Melvin said he wanted to get the rookie some work in lower-pressure situations.
Cook has converted just two of his last six save opportunities, and 12 of 19 for the season.
Melvin was reluctant to name a new closer, saying the team has ''a couple...
Jonny Gomes homered to tie the game, and Brandon Inge hit a go-ahead single as the Oakland Athletics scored twice in the eighth inning and beat the Chicago White Sox 9-7 on Saturday night.
Oakland had a five-run third and led 5-2, but the White Sox rallied and took a 7-6 lead in the seventh on A.J. Pierzynski's RBI single off Ryan Cook (5-2).
After Gomes homered off Matt Thornton...
Yes, you read the header correctly folks. The Athletics are looking stronger by the day. Personally, i think the hype started after they swept the Yanks at home earlier last month. The A's are as their website says a "Green Collar" baseball team. I believe that statement suites them well. Here is why.
1. The A's lead the MLB in walkoff wins this season.
