The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman-outfielder Conor Jackson from the Oakland Athletics to add an experienced bat to their roster.
The Red Sox completed the deal just before the waiver deadline Wednesday night to get Jackson. The Red Sox also got cash in the trade.
Jackson hit .249 with four homers and 38 RBIs in 102 games for Oakland.
Boston sent minor-league right-hander Jason Rice to the Athletics. Rice was 4-5 with four saves and a 3.69 ERA at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Jackson has postseason experience. He played in the playoffs for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2007, going 4 for 17 (.235) with two RBIs in six games over two series.
