The A's are planning to make a one-year offer to free agent pitcher Bartolo Colon, the ace of this year's staff. Colon told A's writers during the playoffs that he might be interested in playing three more years in total. However, the A's apparently would like to keep Colon, who's 40 now, on a one-year deal, if possible. Colon re-emerged as an ace the past couple years and was 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA this past year. The A's, famous as the Moneyball team, remain a small-revenue team and don't like to chance having wasted years. The A's have six starting pitching candidates, with Sonny Gray, Jarrod Parker, Dan Straily, A.J. Griffin, Brett Anderson and Tommy Milone. But Colon nicely balances the ultra-young group with his experience. A's general manager Billy Beane and Colon's agent, Adam Katz, are expected to meet here at the GM meetings.
