HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have acquired infielder Tyler Greene from St. Louis in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today. To make room for Greene on the 40-man roster, the Astros designated Triple A infielder Brian Bixler for assignment. Greene will report to the Major League club, at which point the Astros will make a corresponding 25-man roster move. Greene, 28, has spent his entire 2012 season with St. Louis, appearing in 77 games, including 40 starts at second base and four at shortstop. A former first-round draft selection (30th overall) from the June 2005 Draft, Greene has seen Major League time in each of the last four seasons (2009-12) with the Cardinals and has played in 227 career Major League games. The right-handed hitting infielder has appeared at every defensive position other than catcher and pitcher in his MLB career, but has seen most of his time at second base (64 starts) and shortstop (51 starts). He has gone 25-for-27 in stolen base attempts in his Major League career and 144-for-166 in his minor league career. Bixler, 29, has spent the majority of his season with Triple A Oklahoma City. In three stints with Houston in 2012, he appeared in 36 games. With the moves, the Astros 40-man roster remains full.
