The Astros get their first day off in almost three weeks on Thursday. The way things have been going though Houston might rather stay in Seattle and keep playing. The Astros swept their final series of the season against the Mariners with a 5-1 victory on Wednesday night at Safeco Field. The Astros head back to Houston after a 4-3 swing through Oakland and Seattle marking just their second winning road trip of the season. After starting the road swing by winning just one of four games against the A’s Houston torched the Mariners by scoring 25 runs in the series and knocking out a total of 36 hits. “You come into a series and you want to win the series” manager Bo Porter said. “You put yourself in a position winning the first two games and having an opportunity to sweep and I felt like the guys really responded well.” As they had the previous night the Astros put Wednesday’s game out of reach early. Matt Dominguez started the action with a double in the second and he scored on a ...

Astros complete sweep of Mariners with 6-1 win

Brad Peacock gave up one run in six innings and Chris Carter singled in two runs to lead the Houston Astros to a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night. The Astros - who have the worst record in the majors (50-96) - won all three games in Seattle for their third sweep of the season, and first since early June. In the lone bright spot for the Mariners, Kendrys...

Jonathan Villar homered on the first pitch of the game and the Houston Astros coasted to a 13-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Villar connected off Joe Saunders (11-14), sending a drive well over the left-field fence for his first career homer. The Astros scored six times in the first three innings to chase Saunders. Astros’ offense explodes on Mariners in 13-2 rout

Hoes accounted for 3 RBI apiece in an offensive outburst that plated six runs over the first three innings and chased Seattle lefty Joe Saunders (11-14) from the game. The effort helped secure a 13-2 win over the Mariners and Houston’s first series victory since Aug. 23-25 against Toronto...

Looking Back: Astros vs. Mariners review

Disappointing Sweep Well if the Seattle Mariners‘ series against the Houston Astros wasn’t disappointing, I don’t know what is. Playing host to the last-place Astros in what was the conclusion of their second-to-last home series of the year, the Mariners dropped three games in disgusting fashion, all but sending the rest of those fans who were still tuned into the club away...

Angels-Astros Preview

While they likely won't avoid finishing with triple-digit losses again, the Houston Astros have tried their best to begin wrapping up this season in positive fashion. Dallas Keuchel will try to lead his club to its first four-game win streak in three months by ending his recent struggles in Friday night's series opener against the red-hot Los Angeles Angels. Houston (50...

Series Preview: Angels vs. Astros vs. Getting back in the race

vs.  MATCH-UP MOTTOS FRIDAY, 9/13: Jason Vargas vs. Dallas Keuchel: Kicking them while they're down. Dallas Keuchel is coming off one of his worst starts this season while Vargas is starting to hit a nice streak since coming off the DL. Vargas just killed Texas, so I'm guessing he can keep that magic alive against the city of Houston. Dallas&...
