PLAYERS: Justin Upton
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
Team: Atlanta Braves Record: 54-41 (1st Place) Biggest Surprise of First Half: It’s hard for a team with such high expectations to have a surprise, but there has actually been a couple for the Braves this season. The biggest and best surprise has been the play of catcher Evan Gattis. In his first season at the MLB level, Gattis has hit an impressive .252 batting average, 14 home runs and 37 RBI’s. What’s even more impressive is that the strong Rookie of the Year candidate is a backup, he does not play every day and usually pinch hits. Sticking with the pinch hitting theme, both fielders Jordan Schafer and Ramiro Pena have been pleasant surprises off the bench. Schafer is batting over .300 as a substitute player with Pena batting .278 and 12 RBI’s. As for an every day start, the best surprise has been the play of third baseman Chris Johnson. Johnson has the highest batting average for the Braves with .328. Biggest Disappointment of First Half: An easy selection for this category, lo...
