Brad Ausmus made two key moves with his coaching staff Wednesday, re-signing Jeff Jones as his pitching coach and adding Dave Clark as the third-base coach and outfield instructor. Jones has been a Tigers coach since 2006 after working in Detroit's minor-league system since 1989, and was promoted from bullpen coach to pitching coach during the 2011 season. In his time in charge of the pitchers, Justin Verlander won a Cy Young and MVP, while Max Scherzer is expected to add a second Cy Young next week. Anibal Sanchez also led the American League in ERA this season, as the Tigers developed the best starting rotation in baseball. Clark moved into coaching after a 13-season journeyman career that saw him play for six teams, including twice for the Cubs, and never play more than 110 games in a a season. His career ended in Houston in 1998, where he played alongside Ausmus. The 51-year-old went on to be a minor-league coach and manager for Pittsburgh and Houston, and spent the last five years as a coach with the Astros. He was Houston's interim manager at the end of the 2009 season, going 4-9 after replacing Cecil Cooper, and also coached first and third base.
