Sox fans should give Lackey a chance to prove himself this season.
Every Red Sox fan has their opinion on John Lackey. Most of them are that he should have never been signed in the first place. The Red Sox needed pitching in the 2009 off season, as most teams always do and they signed Lackey to a 5 year $82.5 million contract. That means this season Lackey will make just over $15 million. Is that a lot for a pitcher who had the worst ERA in the history of baseball two seasons ago and missed last year for Tommy John surgery? Yes it most certainly is. As Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira said last week, most baseball players don’t live up to their contracts. A player is most valuable to the team they are initially drafted by when they are going through the arbitration process something that Will Middlebrooks has not even hit yet.
John Lackey signed with the Red Sox after spending eight seasons with the Angels. He was a respectable pitcher getting double digit wins almost eve...

Player Profile #112: Mike Napoli | C, 1B | BOS
Mike Napoli ended up signing with Boston, but the whole drawn out process and Napoli’s final contract terms make much of his future, both short- and long-term, very uncertain.
Ultimately, Napoli and the Red Sox agreed to a one-year, $5MM contract with incentives that could bring the full value of the deal up to $13MM. Considering the original deal was three years with $39MM guaranteed...
John Lackey Shows Up to Red Sox Spring Training Looking Very Slim (Photos)
John Farrell recently said it looked as if John Lackey had lost 12 to 15 pounds. The Red Sox skipper might be underselling him a bit.
The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham and ESPN’s Gordon Edes both tweeted photos of Lackey playing catch down in Fort Myers on Thursday, and it’s safe to say that the right-hander really has shed some weight. In fact, Lackey has never looked so thin...

2013 Fantasy Preview: Boston Red Sox
This team will need to wear name tags for the first few weeks of spring training, because the offseason turnover was astounding. Necessary, but astounding nonetheless.
Offseason moves:
Traded for RP Joel Hanrahan
Don't be fooled by the save numbers. Hanrahan has shutdown stuff, but walked 36 batters in 59 2/3 innings last season as the...
Red Sox rumors: Boston ‘highly unlikely’ to land Kyle Lohse
The Boston Red Sox have been one of the many teams tied to
free agent Kyle Lohse, but it’s “highly unlikely” the right-hander reaches an
agreement with the team, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.
According to a major league source, however, it is “highly
unlikely” the Red Sox will be locking up the top free agent pitcher still on
the market.
Bradford...
Dana Levangie Replaces Recently Retired Gary Tuck as Red Sox’ New Bullpen Coach
The Red Sox announced Tuesday that Dana Levangie has been named the team’s new bullpen coach.
Levangie replaces Gary Tuck, who retired last week after six seasons with the organization. Levangie, 43, has spent the past seven seasons serving as a major league advance scout with the Red Sox, and he also will continue to assist in advance scouting going forward.
This isn’t the first...
Red Sox Kick Off Excitement for 2013 Season With Annual Truck Day (Photos)
The Red Sox’ equipment truck rolled out of Fenway Park on Tuesday, beginning its near-1,500-mile journey to JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla., and marking the unofficial start of baseball season.
Before the wheels started turning, the truck had to be loaded, and Red Sox fans flocked down to Yawkey Way to take in the annual tradition of Truck Day.
Co-owner Larry Lucchino, third baseman...
Vote: Which Red Sox Starter Will Win the Most Games in 2013?
With Truck Day (literally) in the rear view mirror and players already reporting early to Fort Myers, a new Red Sox season is nearly upon us.
Everyone knows that 2012 did not go as planned for Boston, and while injuries played a big part in the Sox’ subpar season, it was largely a pitching staff that wasn’t up to snuff that doomed the season. This year, however, with former pitching...
Red Sox injury news: David Ortiz, John Lackey
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey is set to enter
spring training without restrictions, while designated hitter David Ortiz
continues to recover from an injured right Achilles tendon that sidelined him
for a majority of 2012.
Lackey underwent reconstructive elbow surgery 15 months ago
and has recovered to the point where he’s entering camp without restrictions...
Where Will the Red Sox Equipment Truck Stop Before Arriving in Fort Myers for Spring Training?
It is nearly 1,500 miles from Fenway Park to the team’s spring training facility in Fort Myers, but only if you take the fastest route.
With the Red Sox equipment truck heading south, with some time to spare until pitchers and catchers report, it might be a good idea to take a couple detours to take in the sights. After all, a road trip isn’t a road trip without some unexpected...
NFL Season Over: Countdown to Red Sox Pitchers and Catchers

Beyonce’s thigh shaking has ended. One of the Harbaugh brothers beat the other. Stats “after the power outage” are in the books. The Super Bowl is over and now I can start to think about Major League Baseball. Breathe.
It is true that I love hockey. I am an avid Boston Bruins fan. But there is not another sport I love as much as the one that is played outside...
This “The Town” T Shirt From BruinsLife.com Is Absolute Fire
A.B. There’s a fine line between homer apparel and pink hat apparel. The kid wearing a pre-faded Old Navy Boston Red Sox shirt is a pink-hat. The kid wearing the same faded shirt, except it was made by Jerzees in 1985, is a die hard Sox fan. To a casual observer they are both blue, both faded and both have the Red Sox B. But one went through Buckner, Boggs and Beckett – the other...
Tim Wakefield to host reality show
Tim Wakefield has been retired from Major League Baseball for a year, and now he's trying to impart his knowledge of the knuckleball onto five inexperienced pitchers.
But these aren't just any athletes. The former Red Sox pitcher will be teaching Doug Flutie and four other former NCAA Division I quarterbacks his famous pitch on an MLB Network reality show called "The...
Clay Buchholz Thinks John Lackey Will Become Red Sox’ Ace at Some Point
John Lackey missed all of 2012, but he’s confident that 2013 will be a big bounce-back year. That confidence is apparently contagious, as Lackey’s manager and teammates have also had nothing but good things to say about the right-hander as he gets set to try and silence his critics.
Clay Buchholz spoke down in Fort Myers about a number of topics, including his health, the arrival...
Tim Wakefield to teach knuckleball to ex-college QBs on ‘The Next Knuckler’ (video)
In a new reality show series debuting on the MLB Network on Feb. 13, skilled knuckleballer Tim Wakefield — who spent most of his storied MLB career slinging the unique pitch as a member of the Boston Red Sox — will be teaching the art of knuckleball to a bunch of former — some famous, some not so much — college quarterbacks in a show entitled, The Next Knuckler.

40 Man Roster Review: Joel Hanrahan
With Spring Training less than a month away, the Red Sox 40 Man
Roster should be fairly set until the end of camp. I'll take this
opportunity to review the entire roster. Lets face it, there's not much
else going on.
Let's Hope Hanrahan isn't staring this direction too much in 2013.
