Anthony Rieber of Newsday, spoke to Las Vegas manager Wally Backman who has been charged, along with hitting coach George Greer, with fixing Ike Davis beginning today. “It may be two weeks. It could be a month. I don’t know,” Backman said regarding the length of Davis’ demotion. “He’s coming here for us to fix him, and we’re going try to fix him. I think there’s a lot more mental than there is physical. When I sit him down and talk to him, we’re going to try to attack that. Try to clear his head from everything. He was getting, from what I heard, lots of different people giving him a lot of different information. So basically, mentally, he’s totally messed up.” Backman said that he’s already “watched hours and hours of tape” on Davis and that his swing now is so completely different from when he first arrived to the big leagues. “He’s made so many changes. I think personally it’s been too many changes. Try to get him back to what he did to get to the big leagues. We’re goi

Ike Davis Is Determined To Make It Back To The Mets

Poor Ike Davis…  He gets demoted to Triple-A, deservedly so, and leaves for Las Vegas without commenting on his feelings or the matter. The obviously crushed first baseman kept his head down after the game on Sunday as he emptied his locker, packed his bags and headed for the airport. SNY sent their Baseball Insider Andy Martino to Vegas and asked Davis what was going through...

Finally: Ike Davis Demoted, Satin Returns

The day has finally come in which the Mets used their brains and sent Ike Davis to Triple-A, and he was not alone. Left handed reliever Robert Carson and Queens Native outfielder Mike Baxter have been given a free trip to Las Vegas, while the Mets are expected to recall lefty Josh Edgin, outfielder Colin Cowgill and first baseman Josh Satin. Well at least we have guys with cooler...

Mets Finally Demote Ike Davis

Falling under the category of it being about time, the Mets demoted Ike Davis this afternoon, along with outfielder Mike Baxter and left-hander Robert Carson to Triple-A Las Vegas. Davis has struggled all season and there has been speculation of him being optioned for several weeks, but GM Sandy Alderson has been reluctant to make the move. Davis struggled early last year but rebounded...

Mets Might Have Waited Too Late To Save Ike Davis

The first thing to cross my mind hearing about the Ike Davis demotion is:  What grievous thing did he do that he hasn’t done all season to finally cause Sandy Alderson to act? Seriously, what took Alderson so long? All of a sudden Alderson watched the flailing first baseman and said, “Hey, this has to stop.’’ I find that hard to believe. What I don’t find hard to believe...

Mets Fans React To The Demotion Of Ike Davis

Over the past half-decade or so, Mets fans have developed a self-deprecating, Larry David-esque sense of humor. It is a coping mechanism to deal with some really awful baseball. Consider the following, the Mets cleanup hitter and everyday first baseman Ike Davis is currently hitting .164. Last year, Davis played in 156 games for the Mets and hit .227. The Mets franchise is so inept...

Was Ike Davis Unlucky in 2013?

If one were to try to account for how lucky, or unlucky-, a player has been during the course of a season, a common statistic to look to is said player’s Batting Average on Balls in Play. The statistic measures how often a player got a hit when putting a ball in play, separating all other in-game factors from the equation. While the statistic can help to tell the story of luck...

The Anachronistic Ike Davis

Yes. This was a year too late. While most Met fans were jumping for joy when Ike Davis re-discovered his swing in the second half of last year, I was one of the few who preferred demoting him to AAA to rework his swing and more importantly his mindset. I’m not saying I was right, but who are we kidding? I was right and I stood by it then and now. It’s a shame because there really...

Breaking: Mets Demote Ike Davis, Mike Baxter, Robert Carson To Triple-A Vegas

According to multiple reports, the Mets have optioned Ike Davis, Mike Baxter and Robert Carson to Triple-A Las Vegas following today’s brutal 8-4 loss to the Marlins. Adam Rubin is reporting that the three corresponding moves will come from Triple-A Vegas after today’s game. No one has been pulled from the 51s game yet. More on this to come. Keep it locked on MMO.

Mets demote Ike Davis; Zack Wheeler to be called up

Prior to the series sweep of the New York Yankees, the New York Mets had made it known that first baseman Ike Davis was on the cusp of being demoted due to his lack of performance. Despite leading the team with 32 home runs last season, Davis has hit a measly 5 home runs through 55 games this season — along with 16 runs batted in and a line of .161/.242/.258 which is absolutely...

Mets Remain Stuck After Ike Davis Demotion; Doing Daniel Murphy Wrong

At least the Mets had one issue resolved Tuesday night, and that is who to demote from the rotation when Zack Wheeler is brought up. That will be Jeremy Hefner, who gave up five unearned runs. The Mets are determined to bring up Wheeler despite questions of him not being ready because they desperately want a diversion to this already lost season. Hefner and Dillon Gee have pitched...

Mets To Promote Josh Satin, Collin Cowgill, Josh Edgin To Replace Davis, Baxter And Carson

Updated by Satish Ram at 7:45 PM: Adam Rubin is reporting that first baseman Josh Satin, center fielder Collin Cowgill and lefthanded reliever Josh Edgin will be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace Ike Davis, Mike Baxter and Robert Carson who were all optioned to Triple-A after today’s 8-4 loss to the Marlins. Satin will be added to the 40-man roster to fill the empty...

Alderson and Wright Address the Davis, Baxter, Carson Demotions

Sandy Alderson has announced that the Mets have optioned Ike Davis, Mike Baxter and Robert Carson to Triple-A Las Vegas following today’s brutal 8-4 loss to the Marlins. “At some point you just have to say to yourself this is not in his best interest,” Sandy Alderson said about Davis’ demotion. “I was one of his biggest supporters. I just felt at some point we’ve got...

Alderson Made Wholesale Roster Changes Nine Months Later

The New York Mets have gotten off to a wretched start that has seen them dip to 12 games below .500 in early-June. The early optimism of a club that could potentially earn a Wild Card berth if everything clicked is as far gone as a Rob Carson fastball. The club demoted LHB Mike Baxter, LHP Rob Carson, and LHB Ike Davis on Sunday night following the club’s 8-4 loss to the Miami...
