Found September 06, 2008 on Dunn and Dunner:
Dayton Daily News recently had a quote from Dusty Baker regarding Wilkin Castillo's playing time.
"With the teams we're playing, he probably won't get a start against the Cubs, Milwaukee, Arizona and St. Louis," said Baker. "Probably won't be until we get to Houston and it looks as if they're still trying to stay in it."

It's completely understandable that Dusty would play certain guys over others to make sure that the Reds give every team a fair shake when it comes to competition and the playoff races. The main problem with that concept is that Dusty is continuing to play Corey Patterson and Paul Bako as if they are his best options.

Only thing Ryan Hanigan has done since being recalled is hit to the tune of a .904 OPS while Paul Bako has only collected 1 more hit than Hanigan has since the All Star break. I'd like to note that Hanigan didn't get called up until August 11th. Clearly starting Hanigan would be viewed as putting out a weak line up that would be unfair to other teams in the playoff race.

On to Corey Patterson who is terrible at everything besides D at times. Here is where he ranks among the 260 MLB players with over 300 plate appearances this year in some basic statistical categories. (I'm only using basic ones because they are easily accessible from ESPN, and Dusty used to work for them so he might have an idea what these stats are.)

OPS: 259th
OBP: 260th
BA: 259th (Paul Bako is 258 BTW)
Slugging: 239th
Walks per plate appearance: 247th

It's a shame we can't play an outfield of Castillo, Dickerson, and Bruce because we would be taking it way too easy on teams.
