MINNEAPOLIS Former Twins right-hander Scott Baker sign a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Baker became a free agent this offseason after Minnesota declined his 9.25 million club option for the 2013 season. While Baker expressed interested at the end of the 2012 season in possibly staying with the Twins, the two sides decided to part ways. The 31-year-old Baker missed all of last year after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. He was the Twins' top pitcher in 2011, going 8-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 21 starts before suffering an injury late in the season. Baker experienced discomfort in his elbow this past spring training and did not throw a single pitch in the regular season for the Twins. Baker's one-year deal with the Cubs is for a reported 5.5 million, according to the Chicago Tribune. Baker can also earn an additional 1.5 million in incentives in 2013, the Tribune reported. Baker was a second-round pick by the Twins in the 2003 draft. He debuted with Minnesota in 2005. In seven seasons with the Twins, Baker was 63-48 with a 4.15 ERA. Follow Tyler Mason onTwitter.
