Bleacher Report:
Courtesy of the Roar from 34, we now know that the Orioles lead the league in underrated players. And that’s a shame, because the Sports Illustrated piece gives a faulty impression that the Orioles are talented enough to compete in the major leagues.
Is there any benefit to being underrated if you’re Nick Markakis or Brian Roberts? Is it a nicer way of saying ‘you’re great, but not great enough to make your team better?’ Not even. Roy Halladay isn’t underrated. Neither is Ryan Zimmerman. People know how good they are, despite the organizational quagmires in which they play.
So, it’s nice of Sports Illustrated to put a pretty spin on the Orioles’ ugly season. But it doesn’t go a long way in making the team, or Markakis's and Roberts’s contributions, seem that much more important in this, the 12th consecutive losing season in Charm City.
