The Baltimore Orioles could look to add an arm like Marlins’ closer Steve Cishek to their bullpen   The trade deadline is finally in sight and all of the speculation and rumors will be proven true or false within the next week. There are rumors surrounding just about every team, whether they are going to be dealing their players, or acquiring new ones. For the Baltimore Orioles, they have been looked at as buyers, and while they have not been active yet, many rumors still surround the team. As the days have progressed, certain names have dropped off the table, and others have risen to it in regard to the Orioles’ targets. It seems as though David Price is not a possibility, not only for the Orioles, but for any team, as the Rays are currently the hottest team in baseball and believe they may have a chance at saving their season. On the flip side, a few new players’ names have come up as potential trade targets for Baltimore. One of these players is Minnesota Twins All-Star catcher Kurt Suzuki. With the Twins way out of contention, Suzuki seems to be one of their biggest bargaining pieces. While only under contract through the rest of this season, and with an All-Star catcher already on their roster, Suzuki could be a solid addition for the Orioles to essentially rent for the rest of the season. That is, if it’s for the right price. For the Orioles to give up a bunch of prospects for Suzuki would be nonsensical, but if they can potentially get him for cheap, he would be a major upgrade over newly acquired Nick Hundley, and rookie Caleb Joseph. Suzuki would be able to provide for the Orioles for the rest of the season and bridge the gap until Matt Wieters’ return next season. Another player apparently grabbing the Orioles’ attention is Padres’ starter Ian Kennedy. Kennedy seems to have just about every contending team interested in him, as the Padres are absolutely looking to move him for more players, and he is capable of being a solid arm in a rotation. Kennedy is currently 8-9 this season, but possesses a 3.66 ERA, meaning that his record may be a lot better were he not playing for the team with the worst offense in all of baseball. A final name, and one that I believe would be a great addition for the Orioles, is Marlins’ closer Steve Cishek. Cishek has 25 saves this season, putting him in the top 10 in the league. The hard throwing righty, with thane awkward throwing style, would provide another solid arm in the bullpen, and would give the Orioles the ability to either move Zach Britton back into a set up role in the seventh or eighth inning, or keep Britton as the closer, and put Cishek in the set up position. The other top teams in the AL have done just this, adding players like Huston Street, or Joakim Soria, to strengthen their bullpens for the playoffs, and the Orioles would be smart to do something similar. The Orioles have said they will not trade players like Kevin Gausman, Dylan Bundy, or Hunter Harvey. However, they do have other top arms in their farm system, as well as proven pitchers in the majors such as Miguel Gonzalez, which hopefully makes a beneficial trade possible for the team before next week’s deadline.
