The former Cincinnati Reds shortstop, Barry Larkin, was elected into the baseball’s Hall of Fame Monday. He was elected on 495 of 573 ballots, or 86 percent, with plenty of room from the necessary 75 percent. This was Larkin’s third time on the ballot.Larkin played all 19 seasons of his career with the Reds. He had a career average of .295 with 198 home runs and 960 RBIs. He also scored 1,329 runs and amounted 379 stolen bases. In 1996, he became the first shortstop to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a season. He made 12 All-Star Games, won the 1995 NL MVP, and was a member of the 1990 World Series Champions. He also won three Gold Gloves and nine Silver Sluggers.Larkin stated, “‘It’s just amazing. Last year, I just started to smell it a little bit. The first year I didn’t even think it was fathomable, to be quite honest.”Larkin is the 48th inductee to play his entire career with one team.
