J.J. Cooper of Baseball America hosted the Prospect Chat for the SAL Top Prospect list earlier this week. Here are the Mets related questions he responded to which contain some interesting insights on Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo, Gabriel Ynoa and Kevin Plawecki.
What did scouts have to say about Dilson Herrera?
Dilson Herrera impressed a lot of observers. He’s improved his defense, although he’s still a little mechanical out there. He has good hand-eye coordination and projects as an average to tick above-average hitter. He’s an average runner. So what you have is a guy who is on the borderline of being an everyday second baseman or more of a second-division guy.
I realize Ynoa is more of a pitchability guy than a stuff guy, but still….the guy voted the league Pitcher of the Year isn’t top 20?
He had a great year and I asked about him a lot, but his arsenal fits the profile of the kind of guy who dominated in low Class A. Ynoa has a great changeup, which is like a termite to young...
