Robert Refsnyder, an outfielder for the Arizona Wildcats baseball team who was born in South Korea, took some heckling from South Carolina fans at the College World Series back in June. He took to Twitter and said that he “will never live in South Carolina because they can’t accept Asians playing baseball.” See the irony? He’s an immigrant living in Arizona. Anyway, not too long after his Twitter post, Refsnyder apologized.
Refsnyder was actually selected in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Yankees, and he signed with them on Friday. He was assigned to the club’s Class A team, which is in… CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA!
Here’s what Refsnyder had to say about this whole ordeal:
“As soon as I landed in Charleston, people have been nothing but great,” the former University of Arizona right fielder said at Riley Park, where the RiverDogs were preparing to face the Asheville Tourists in a Class A South Atlantic League game.
