The Winter Meetings left us wanting, but that just sets us up for an even more exciting final few months leading up to Spring Training. Still, there were a few big transactions in the past week. Michael Young leaves Texas after 13 years with the team, Zack Greinke signed a record contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Josh Hamilton didn’t sign anywhere…yet. Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been talking about this past week on Baseball Professor: Oakland’s outfield was one of fantasy baseball’s biggest surprises in 2012 with Yoenis Cespedes and Josh Reddick breaking out. We also took a look at whether Austin Jackson has what it takes to be a perennial .300 hitter. Mike Napoli signed with the Boston Red Sox before this week, but it took us until Monday to finally get our act together and analyze what the move means for his fantasy value. Our conclusion: Fenway’s no Arlington, but Napoli projects to get get a lot more playing time and that could mean a new career high in home runs. Desmond Jennings was a highly targeted player in drafts last year, but he was outperformed by a rookie who was almost universally undrafted! Our weekly fantasy baseball trends article showed how much top talent has emerged in the outfield in the last year, and Jason Heyward and Bryce Harper threaten to make the position even more top-heavy this year. George offered 12 thoughts on what he saw in 2012 including Cespedes’ unexpected maturation throughout the year and a quick note on why Curtis Granderson‘s batting average should come back up in 2013. And, of course, we looked at the fantasy fallout of the Young trade. Mike Olt is the big winner, and Young should see his value drop as he leaves Arlington for not-so-greener pastures in Philly. And that’s not all that we’ve been discussing. Here are what our readers have been talking about over on our Facebook page: What story lines are readers were most closely following during the Winter Meetings. Our Harper projection, version 1.0, seems very optimistic. Here’s what the BaseballProf Facebook Community thought about it. The Miami Marlins’ Opening Day lineup looks a lot like a AAA team. Readers gave their thoughts on who are the toughest batters to get a feel for in 2013 with Chase Headley and Desmond Jennings garnering some attention. And, finally, our community reacts to Greinke’s record-setting contract.
