St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran stole his 300th career base on Friday night to become the first switch-hitter in major league history to reach 300 home runs and 300 steals. The Cardinals ended up losing to the visiting Kansas City Royals 3-2. Beltran is only the eighth member of the 300/300 Club, joining Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonds, Andre Dawson, Steve Finley, Willie Mays, Alex Rodriguez and Reggie Sanders. "I just have to thank God for the opportunity of being able to play this game for a long time," Beltran told MLB.com. "All the glory is for him. I've been fortunate to be able to play this game for long, and today, it's great. It would have been great if we would have won." Beltran went 2-for-4 in the defeat. Second base was pulled off the Busch Stadium field after the game and given to Beltran in the Cardinals' clubhouse. Team sources told MLB.com that Beltran might send his used spikes from the game to the Baseball Hall of Fa...

Signs of Life

This week, the St. Louis Cardinals began to show what they are capable of again, at least from a pitching standpoint. But they are still a long way from right. The rotation of Adam Wainwright, Kyle Lohse, Lance Lynn, Jake Westbrook, and Joe Kelly collectively had an ERA just a shade over 2.00 this week, allowing nine earned runs over 40 innings.
